Back in the studio, Aveline poured herself a glass of milk. She hadn’t had much for dinner and was hungry already.

Then she called Fiona.

Fiona soon picked up. Hearing the noisy background environment, Aveline asked, “Are you in a club?”

“Yes. I’m at Velvet Club,” Fiona answered. “Do you wanna come over? Let’s have a drink to celebrate. Sebastian told me your studio passed the preliminary qualification.

“Hey, you know what? Josephine and Xavier were here earlier. They left half an hour ago. The sight of them totally ruined my mood. How come they always show up everywhere together? Are they really that inseparable?”

Aveline said flatly, “I saw them at the Sutton’s villa.”

“The Sutton’s villa? What were you doing there? Visiting Madam Sutton?”

Fiona knew the relationship between Aveline and Jacob was extremely strained, and Gloria was the only one in the Sutton family who cared about Aveline.

The mention of Gloria made Aveline’s heart clench.

She had thought Gloria truly doted on her, but now she saw that the Sutton family’s heir meant more. For him, Gloria even asked her to step down just so that Josephine and Xavier could be together.

“Fiona, I need to ask you something,” she said. “Courtney’s pregnant again. I’m worried Jacob might leave her the entire family fortune. Is there any way I can stop him?”

“What? Courtney is pregnant? But she’s in her forties, right? Gee, she’s really going all out. But… are you sure it’s a boy?”

Taking another sip of her milk, Aveline replied, “I think so. Otherwise, my grandma wouldn’t be taking her side.”

Initially, as she and Josephine were Jacob’s only children, she hadn’t been worried about him leaving the entire family fortune to Courtney and Josephine. After all, he had given her his word.

At least the share that rightfully belonged to Bethany was secure.

However, everything would change if he had a son.

Fiona clicked her tongue. “Even Madam Sutton favors boys over girls? How disappointing.”

She then added, “You mentioned before that Bethany had made a will before she passed away, right? Where is it? Let me take a look. I’ll see what it says.

Aveline pinched the bridge of her nose. “My mom had no idea about Jacob’s affair and his illegitimate daughter. She thought I was his only child and would inherit everything, so she made the will just to set aside some money for my grandparents‘ retirement.”

After a moment of silence, Fiona sighed, “In that case, you and Jacob should split Bethany’s estate equally. But if he gives his entire fortune to them, you could very much end up with nothing.

“Your priority is to secure your share. You can’t go after Jacob’s own property while he’s still alive, right?”

That was exactly what Aveline had been thinking. She just needed to consult a lawyer to confirm her suspicions. “I understand. I’ll find some time to come to your firm to talk in person.”

“OK. Hey, I just remembered–Gerald told me that Xavier asked him which one of us drew up the

Fiona scoffed, “What is Xavier thinking? You stated clearly in the nothing. What is he even suspecting?”

Aveline was surprised. Recalling how Xavier had accused her of throwing a tantrum, she smiled calmly and said, “Perhaps he thought I never truly wanted a divorce and was just using it as a tactic to blackmail him.”

After chatting with Fiona for a while, Aveline finished her milk.

She hung up, took a shower, dried her hair, completed her skincare routine, and went to bed.

Since it was still ahead of her usual bedtime, she picked up her phone and opened Instagram, which she hadn’t checked in a long time, to browse and like her friends‘ posts.

Just then, Jasmine texted her, “Babe, is Josephine the reason you’re getting a divorce?”

Aveline had never told Jasmine about the affair between Xavier and Josephine.

After a moment’s hesitation, she typed back, “Why?”

Soon, Jasmine sent her two screenshots from Instagram.

“I saw these on Instagram. Josephine posted an ad she directed, and it’s one of the trending topics now. A friend of mine is on her ad team and posted this to butter her up.”

The first screenshot was Josephine’s Instagram post. In the photo, she and Xavier clicked glasses, standing face–to–face in front of a floor–to–ceiling window with a city night view behind them.

She was looking up at him with a sweet smile, while he gazed down, his expression deep and unusually gentle under the dim yellow light.

The caption was, “Thank you for your support, Darling. This is the most incredible birthday gift. I’m so moved.”

Aveline recognized their outfits from Josephine’s birthday–the same ones they had worn in the photo Fiona had sent her that day.

Xavier was in a sleek suit, and Josephine was in a luxurious, sexy form–fitting gown.

She clicked on the other screenshot.

It was the post from Jasmine’s friend. In addition to reposting Josephine’s picture, her friend had also shared a screenshot of the advertisement itself, which was for Solara Plaza–a property under the Beltran Group.

The caption was, “Ms. Sutton’s directorial debut is a huge hit! She’s so talented. I’m lucky to be part of the team. This success is all thanks to Mr. Beltran’s trust and support. He and Ms. Sutton are the perfect power couple. They’re brilliant, gorgeous, and truly meant to be.”
