Chapter 359
Her anger was rising, and her blood heated as she stared into her son’s dark eyes that were so similar to her own. How could he pick a woman from a lower status family, his own employee, no less? Did he not care about the reputation that his forefathers built through their blood, sweat, and tears?
Helen’s hands curled into tight fists, but she forced herself to calm down. In her experience, she knew that getting angry at her son was not the way to approach things. She needed to approach this situation delicately.
If Helen started yelling at her son that he was disgracing the family by dating Olivia, he would most likely cut her off for the time being. Helen couldn’t risk that. She needed to be able to know what was going on in her son’s life- especially his dating life. That way, she could stay on the inside and manipulate everything without Alexander even knowing.
Helen Green had always been a master at chess.
She made sure to fix a smile onto her face even though a scream was building in her throat. “Yes!” she said in a voice that she hoped didn’t sound too high–pitched. “I heard that you’re dating that lovely girl, Olivia. Your father told me that you two seemed pretty cozy the last time that he saw you.”
Alexander’s eyes narrowed. Suspicion crept through him. His mother was reacting well to this news…almost too well. Alexander’s guard went up, and he wondered what kind of game his mother was playing. He knew better than to underestimate her.
“Just make sure to keep your relationship a secret for now,” Helen continued, wanting to cover all her bases. “Since Olivia is your subordinate, and she just got out of a very messy divorce.” She cupped her son’s cheek. “I don’t want to see your handsome face splashed across the tabloids.”
Alexander nodded. He saw genuine concern in his mother’s eyes. He tried to keep his guard up, but it was nice to talk to his mom about something that had been heavy on his heart these last couple of days. He found himself opening up to her.
“I really like her, Mom,” he admitted and clasped his hands together. Alexander couldn’t meet his mother’s eyes, so he stared out into the darkening city instead. Bright lights were popping up all throughout the large landscape. “I think that Olivia is the woman that I want to marry one day.”
As soon as he finished, he knew that those words were true. Alexander sat back in his seat, his

eyes full of sincerity. His heart lifted with joy. It was freeing to finally say those words out loud.
Helen felt like someone was squeezing her heart. The sensation was so shocking that for a moment, she thought that she was having a heart attack. She tried to keep a smile on her face as she stared in shock at her son. Helen couldn’t believe he had just said that. Has he gone crazy? He hasn’t even known Olivia that long. How could he know that he wanted to marry her someday?
She comforted herself with the knowledge that she would never allow that to happen. She swallowed past the giant lump in her throat. To buy time, she picked up her mug and took a sip of her tea that had gone cold.
“I’m happy that you have someone you like,” Helen started.
