Chapter 10: Yo, You Go Ahead
“It’s really good.” Camren looked seriously at Britney and emphasized again, “I really like it.”
“Mmhmm.” Britney was thrilled by his affirmation, so she picked up more dishes and placed them on his plate. “Then eat some more ”
Camren ate with such grace, his every movement radiating good upbringing. She also noticed that he wasn’t as cold and unapproachable as people made him out to be.
At the very least, he meticulously ate every dish she served him, giving high praise each time.
It made her feel so accomplished.
“Did you ever cook for Ryan before?”
Camren’s sudden question made the beefstake she was bringing to her mouth tumble onto her plate.
“If you don’t want to answer, you don’t have to.” Camren mentioned it casually, his forks naturally reaching for
the closest dish.
Britney shook her head. “No.”
Or rather, she never had the chance. When she was with Ryan, every meal was a meticulous affair–French, Italian, Thai… what to eat, what cutlery to use, what wine glass for which drink…
Ryan seemed to genuinely enjoy that kind of sophistication.
She’d forced herself to learn a lot, but she never truly liked it. She always felt that as long as she ate her three meals a day with someone she loved, that was enough; there was no need for such fuss.
“Mmhmm.” Camren seemed to have asked idly, not particularly caring about the answer. He didn’t even glance up, but Britney noticed that his appetite was surprisingly good.
Before long, he’d finished eating, and the table’s dishes were mostly gone.
Could it be that she’d outdone herself today?
After dinner, Camren went to his study as usual. Britney walked around the villa to help digest, then returned
to her room to shower.
When she came out in her loungewear, Camren was already in the room.
He must have already showered, as he was in a comfortable set of loungewear too.
Britney froze for a moment, then awkwardly glanced at the single bed in the room.
Albert said they’d slept in the same bed yesterday, but she hadn’t really registered it then, so it hadn’t felt
1/3
weird. But now…
“Come here.” Camren held a glass of water.
Britney took a deep breath, constantly telling herself that they were married, and sleeping in the same bed was totally normal.
If he wanted to… she shouldn’t refuse. It was going to happen sooner or later. Totally, utterly normal
Seeing her hesitate, Camren took a step closer, then reached out and took her hand.
Britney stiffened, feeling a surge of nervousness. Camren opened her palm, and then….
He placed an antipyretic pill in her hand, followed by a glass of warm water.
The doctor said even if the fever breaks, you need to keep taking the medicine for two days to prevent a
relapse.”
“Huh? Oh.” Britney snapped out of her thoughts, silently scolding herself for overthinking, then obediently
took the medicine.
Britney set down the glass and turned around. “You-”
She didn’t know when Camren had moved behind her and nearly bumped into him.
She looked up and saw his firm chest revealed at the collar of his loungewear–well–defined, almost aggressive. It suddenly reminded her of a scene she’d glimpsed from a distance many years ago.
She subconsciously took a step back, only to trip over the corner of the bed and tumble onto it.
She immediately tried to get up, but Camren’s tall figure loomed over her.
