Chapter 40 The Surgery
After a full night’s rest, Amelia got up early, got ready, and headed to the hospital.
Since it was still early, she decided to stop by Thea’s hospital room to comfort her a little.
After all, brain surgery sounded terrifying, even to her.

As she reached the doorway, she heard the Nygards‘ voices coming from inside. Each was trying their best to persuade Thea.
“Thea, you really should talk some sense into Amelia.”
“I won’t. Forget it!” Thea’s weak voice came through.
“You’re too stubborn!” Raymond snapped angrily.
Amelia stepped inside. Maxwell sneered, “Amelia, you’re so cold–hearted. Aunt Thea has always loved you, and now you’re just standing by while she’s dying? You do realize her tumor’s in a dangerous spot? No ordinary doctor can handle this operation!”
“I know,” Amelia said calmly.
“Then why did you say you’d find someone to do it?” Maxwell demanded. “Are you trying to gamble with Aunt Thea’s life?”
Gianna joined in with a fake, worried tone. “Yeah, Amelia. I showed the scans to Professor Warren. Even he isn’t confident. Who could you possibly find that’s better than him?”
Amelia ignored their noise completely. She walked straight to the bed and took Thea’s hand. She said softly, “Aunt Thea, don’t worry. The surgery will go well today.”
Thea gave her a weak smile. “Amelia, I believe in you.”
Raymond mocked in a strange tone, “Believe? You’re risking your life on belief, Thea. You’d better think this through!”
“Raymond!” Thea suddenly raised her voice. “It’s my life. I’ll decide what to do with it!” Marcelo narrowed his eyes. “Aunt Thea, you don’t really believe Amelia could get Dr. Ace, do you?”
Thea said firmly, ‘I don’t care which doctor Amelia found. I’m willing to give it a try. I have nothing to lose anyway. Whether the surgery succeeds or fails, it’s my choice–it has nothing to do with Amelia.”
Marcelo turned toward Amelia with a mocking grin. “You’re going to kill Aunt Thea. Dr. Ace is impossible to track down; not even the International Medical Association could bring this doctor in. Who do you think you are?”
Amelia’s lips curved into a faint smile. “Who am I? I’m—”
Before she could finish, the hospital room door burst open.
Jeremy stepped in, dressed sharply in a black suit, followed by several doctors in white coats.

“The operating room is ready,” he said coolly. “We can begin. His icy gaze swept over the Nygards, carrying a silent warning that made the air freeze.
Amelia nodded slightly, leaned close to Thea’s car, and whispered, “Aunt Thea, trust me.”
The nurses began to move Thea’s bed out of the room. The Nygards were escorted out.

Once Thea was wheeled into the operating room, Amelia headed to prepare for surgery.
Gianna raised her voice on purpose, sharp and shrill. “Where are you going, Amelia? Are you running away so you won’t have to take responsibility if something goes wrong?!”
