Naomi was stunned.
Knowing that Lennon was the owner of the studio was one thing, but learning that the entire game was his brainchild was something else entirely.
In their social circle, aside from his status as an illegitimate son, Lennon was actually exceptionally talented in every aspect.
Naomi remembered her parents mentioning that Lennon had graduated with straight A's from a top-tier university abroad.
Apparently, the university had tried very hard to keep him, offering him numerous incentives, but he had chosen to return home instead.
Naomi had once asked her parents why Lennon was in such a hurry to come back.
Lennon wasn't exactly welcomed in their circle. If she were in his shoes, she would have chosen to stay abroad longer.
Her parents didn't seem to know the details, but they had answered with certainty, “What other reason could there be?”
Mr. Gonzalez had a faint look of disdain on his face, though he masked it well, as befitting the head of the Gonzalez family.
The truth was, he despised illegitimate children, which was why he and Mrs. Gonzalez had maintained a respectful, if distant, relationship for so many years.
Most other men in their circle had mistresses, but not Mr. Gonzalez.
As a child, Naomi had thought it was a symbol of their loyalty to each other. Only later did she realize it was because Mr. Gonzalez had a personal hang-up that constantly reminded him not to make the same mistake.
“Lennon is just an illegitimate son. If he stayed abroad all the time, he would have quickly lost his place in the family. I heard he had a very tough time, flying back and forth several times a week. No one knew he was basically commuting internationally for his studies.”
“Commuting internationally for college?” Naomi had been shocked to hear that at the time. Subconsciously, she'd never believed her parents’ theory about him trying to secure his position in the family. But since she didn't know Lennon well, she had no way of verifying it, and the matter was eventually forgotten.
Now, hearing about this completely different side of Lennon, all the unanswered questions from the past resurfaced, making him seem like an incredibly mysterious person.
“Can I see the materials for our game?” Naomi didn't dare ask Lennon directly, but she figured that if the game's story came from him, studying it might offer a glimpse into his hidden side.
