Patricia had wanted to chat more, but seeing how focused Naomi was on her work, she eventually gave up. Feeling bored, she curled up with her laptop to watch a TV show.
At first, Naomi was just trying to escape Patricia's gossip, but she soon found herself completely absorbed in the game's world.
Several game characters came to life in her mind, and without a second thought, she opened her computer and began to draw.
Patricia heard the activity, glanced down from her bunk, and saw Naomi bent over her desk, working. She clicked her tongue.
“Working for your future boyfriend, I see. Full of motivation!”
Then Patricia sighed wistfully, “When will I find someone that handsome?”
Naomi didn't hear Patricia's musings. She worked feverishly until after three in the morning, finally finishing the sketches of the characters that had popped into her head.
After some quick touch-ups, she saved the drafts, emailed them to Steven, and attached her class schedule with a note: [I'll be online tomorrow after my classes. If you have any feedback, feel free to send it over, and I'll reply when I see it.]
Only after finishing all this did Naomi feel the exhaustion hit her. She quickly cleaned up and went to bed.
The next morning, Naomi woke up at her usual time, but the dark circles under her eyes were startling.
“Good grief, anyone who didn't know better would think you were out robbing a bank last night. What time did you go to sleep?”
Naomi chose a foundation with heavier coverage than usual to hide her dark circles, but then the color difference was too stark, so she frustratingly started applying makeup to her whole face.
“It wasn't that late, really. I don’t get dark circles if I get enough sleep.”
“It's just that I have an early class today...”
Most of her sophomore major courses were scheduled in the morning to leave the afternoons free. Naomi used to like morning classes, but now she realized they were torture.
The silver lining was that she could go to the office in the afternoons if she had time, or work remotely from her dorm if she didn't. Either way worked.
