You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 246

“That’s exactly what you guessed. Ben brought it up at dinner, and I’d bet anything Mr. Martin is already home grilling Ms. Klotz about it.”

Patricia was out in the garden, taking a slow walk after dinner to help digest. Oliver trailed behind her, not too close, just enough to give her space for her phone call.

“So, what do we do next?” he asked quietly.

“We need to find out when they’re meeting. Time for Nina to step in,” Patricia replied, ending her call. She sent a message for Jackson to come find her.

As she strolled down the smooth, sun-warmed stone path, her voice was calm. “Make sure Nina gets Ruby’s medical records. The ones from the hospital.”

“You want Nina to be the one to break the news about Ruby’s leg?”

Patricia nodded. “Exactly.”

Oliver hesitated. “I just worry Nina won’t stick to the plan. She’s still hung up on Theo after everything he’s put her through. She even moved in with him. Honestly, if you handed her brain to Theo’s dog, the dog wouldn’t want it.”

Patricia didn’t even blink. “She’ll do it.”

As long as Theo still carried a torch for his so-called ‘one and only,’ Nina would never go soft.

She wanted Theo for herself—completely.

That night, it was already ten thirty and Theo hadn’t come home. Nina was sitting alone in the living room, phone in hand, just about to call him when the housekeeper walked over with a package.

“Miss, this just arrived for you.”

Nina set her phone down, barely paying attention, and tore open the envelope. As she reached inside, a photo slipped out and fluttered to the floor.

She bent over and picked it up. The picture was blurry, like something from a security camera. Only then did she realize who it was.

Next, she pulled out a medical report.

Name: Ruby

Diagnosis: Right leg amputation

This time, they picked a cozy, upscale spot instead of their usual restaurant. The four of them sat in a private room with classic décor, making everything feel a little more intimate.

They started off chatting about their kids growing up together, sharing stories and a few laughs. Then the conversation shifted to business trends and new government policies.

When the meal was nearly over, Tina took a deep breath and finally spoke up. “I really want to apologize for everything.”

Ben being there meant they were all ready to let the past go. Tina’s apology was enough—there was no need to drag things out any longer.

Zoey immediately reached across the table and squeezed Tina’s hand. “What parent doesn’t worry about their kids? If my Nina ever got hurt out there, I’d want to handle it myself. As parents, we all get it.”

The meal ended on a good note. All four of them walked out of the restaurant smiling.

They had just started heading to their cars when, out of nowhere, camera flashes lit up the night. Dozens of people were there, phones pointed at them, streaming live.

“Mr. Martin, is it true? Did Ruby really lose her leg?”
