"Blame me for taking this long to figure out what our sweet girl really likes."
Patricia reached up and gently pressed her hand over his mouth. "Don’t say another word."
"Alright, alright, I’ll stop."
"So, are we going out or not?"
"Yeah, let’s go together."
Oliver grabbed Patricia’s hand, the other holding a gift bag for Chelsea. Just before they left, he reminded Patricia to stay home and not wander off.
He brought Aiden along, too.
When Chelsea got back from her walk, she caught a glimpse of Oliver’s car heading out of Cloud Peak.
"Heading out?"
"Yeah."
"Business stuff?"
Patricia nodded. "Maybe."
"Forget about him for now." She took Chelsea’s hand and led her into the living room. "Come here. I bought you a bag last time—used Oliver’s card, by the way."
Chelsea’s eyes lit up.
She wasn’t surprised Patricia got her a bag, but the fact she used Oliver’s card? Now that was worth a look.
***
Three spotless Bentleys rolled smoothly down the drive from Cloud Peak.
In the back seat, Oliver’s folding phone was open in his hand, the dark window reflecting his focused gaze as he read through someone’s résumé.
Halfway there, Hector hopped in, shot a glance at Oliver’s phone, and grinned. "That’s a fancy résumé, but if you’re on the wrong side, it doesn’t mean much."
"Feeling bad for him?"
Hector snorted. "Are you serious? Why would I feel sorry for some balding old guy?"
Oliver finally looked up, snapped his phone shut, and turned toward Hector.
The higher-ups picked their favorites from here. The ambitious saw it as their launchpad.
By late March, a sharp wind whipped around the riverside villa.
As the black Bentley pulled up at the gate, Oliver glanced out the window.
Hector leaned against his fist, idly tapping his temple, obviously bored.
He looked over at Oliver. "Should I go in? Or do you want to?"
Before Oliver could answer, Hector said, "Forget it, let’s just go together. Worst case, we get a good meal out of it."
They got out. Oliver wore a crisp white shirt under a black vest, topped with a long black coat—perfect for the early spring chill.
Hector, straight from the office, was in a sharp suit.
The two of them, both looking effortlessly powerful, strolled through the doors. The doorman couldn’t help but stare.
After a day of dragging their feet, the staff suddenly felt like someone had just injected new life into the place.
