You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 522

What was Oliver feeling?

Hard to say.

He wasn’t the kind of guy who showed his emotions. But today, his mood was complicated, caught somewhere between irritation and confusion.

It all started when a girl came stumbling right toward him. Out of reflex—or maybe just because he had nowhere else to go—he reached out and caught her. Maybe he was being nice, or maybe he just thought, if his own wife ever ended up in a mess like this, he’d want someone to help her out too.

But whatever sympathy he had vanished the second Ruby looked back at him. Just like that, the whole moment soured.

He helped her up quickly, then let go just as fast.

Ruby hit the floor with a loud thud.

Hector let out a sigh, then fell silent and faded into the background.

That left Ruby sitting on the floor, stunned, looking up at the man towering over her.

There was no hiding the look in his eyes—pure disgust. He stared at her like she was nothing.

Ruby was the CEO, and this was a dinner with the Skyline Entertainment film crew. Of course, her people rushed to her defense the second she fell.

“Who does that?” someone called out. “First you help her, then you shove her away?”

“Seriously, has this guy never heard of being a gentleman?”

The hall was packed with their people, and the noise was building.

Someone helped Ruby up. She dusted herself off, looking confused as she glanced at Oliver. “Did I do something to offend you, sir?”

She wasn’t blind—he was definitely good-looking—but right now, she wasn’t in the mood to care.

Oliver didn’t answer. He just fixed her with a cold stare, the kind that could freeze you in your tracks.

“Are you really going to block the doorway?” he asked.

“That’s not—” someone tried to protest, but then rushed over, waving their phone at Ruby. “Look at this.”

Ruby glanced at the screen, catching a glimpse of a Wikipedia page.

Hector scratched the back of his neck, looking sheepish. Trust his luck—of all the places and all the times, he had to run into Ruby here?

“It was just a coincidence! The food here is actually pretty good,” he said quickly. “The meatballs, especially—Patricia will love them. They’ve got a little spice, really something special.”

“You should really try them later.”

Not wanting to make things worse, Hector brought up Patricia, hoping it would distract Oliver and lighten the mood.

Sure enough, at the mention of Patricia, Oliver’s expression softened and the tension seemed to drain from his shoulders.

Upstairs in the private dining room, the two of them ordered their food and settled in. The weird scene at the door was already fading as they got into talking about work.

Downstairs, though, the mood was heavy, nothing like the lively atmosphere from before.

The director glared at the younger crew members, clearly frustrated but holding back. “Try reading the news sometimes instead of just scrolling through short videos on your phones,” he said.

“Otherwise, you’re going to bump into some serious people one day and not even realize it.”
