Golden Bay was buzzing as always and the traffic was just as wild. Patricia sat in the passenger seat, propping her chin in her hand, stealing glances at the man driving. She couldn’t wipe the smile off her face.

It was a rare sight—seeing Oliver drive himself.

Her eyes were bright, almost sparkling, and she looked at him in a way that made his heart itch. He caught her staring and grinned. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

“It’s just, you barely ever drive. It’s kind of a novelty,” she said, her tone teasing.

Oliver let out a soft laugh. “If you like it so much, I’ll be your driver every day.”

She shook her head, still smiling. “There’s no way I’d let Mr. Padilla be my chauffeur.”

The way she called him Mr. Padilla made his mood dip a little. He let go of the wheel with one hand and squeezed her palm. “Are you talking nonsense again?”

“Say it again,” he said, giving her hand another gentle squeeze.

Patricia’s eyes crinkled as she laughed. “Fine. From now on, you’re driving me everywhere.”

The black Benz crawled along with the traffic. In these jammed-up streets, nobody could rush things.

Oliver kept his focus on the road but talked to her quietly. “Have you been to Golden Bay before?”

“I used to come a lot, back when I was younger. Not much recently.”

Back when her parents were around, they had business here. She’d always tag along on their trips, just a carefree little princess. After they passed away, she wasn’t that girl anymore.

Oliver glanced over and saw her expression cloud over. He reached over and squeezed her hand, his voice gentle. “This city changes so fast. Next time, I’ll take you out and show you around properly.”

“Okay,” she said softly, feeling a bit lighter.

He asked, “Was it hard to suddenly leave Riverdale behind?”

Patricia shook her head, her voice low. “It’s not easy. But honestly, I worry about you more.”
