You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 619

Patricia woke up in a lousy mood.

For once, Oliver hadn’t gone out for his usual morning run. He just sat there against the headboard, lost in thought, clearly trying to figure out what to do next.

He was about to throw off the covers and get up when he noticed Patricia coming out of the bathroom, pressing a tissue to the side of her face.

“What happened? Did you get hurt?” he asked.

Patricia didn’t even bother to answer. Instead, she grabbed the phone and buzzed Marian, telling her to bring up some band-aids—specifically the clear ones. Then she hung up and marched right back into the bathroom without another word.

“Pattie, what happened to your face? Let me see,” Oliver called after her.

Patricia still didn’t respond.

Oliver had no choice but to follow her. He gently tried to pry her hand away from her face, and finally managed to get a look at the cut just above her temple.

With her bangs down, you’d never even know it was there.

“When did you get this?” he asked quietly.

“Yesterday,” Patricia replied.

Oliver’s brow creased. “Why didn’t you tell me last night?”

Patricia pulled her arm out of his grasp. “You were too busy fighting with me. Like you’d care, anyway.”

“That’s not fair—”

“Liar,” Patricia shot back, her eyes a little glassy as she glared at him. “You’re about to yell at me again, aren’t you?”

Oliver just stood there, lost for words.

“No. I’m just worried about you,” he said, keeping his voice low.

Right then, Marian arrived with the band-aids. Patricia opened a drawer, grabbed some scissors, and trimmed the band-aid down to size. She pressed it gently over the cut, then let her bangs fall back into place, hiding everything.

The way she handled the whole thing made his chest tighten.

Without missing a beat, Patricia started her usual skincare and makeup routine, careful not to touch the cut.

Aiden, finally satisfied, called Johns to report back.

“Mr. Padilla says you need to come downstairs,” Aiden announced after hanging up.

He sighed, resigned, and started dragging Jackson out of bed, bracing himself for whatever was coming.

Jackson grumbled the whole way to the bathroom, brushing his teeth as he muttered, “These heartless capitalists. It’s not even work hours yet. Do I even have rights? He probably got into it with Miss last night and now I’m the punching bag. I must have been born for this.”

He tossed his toothbrush into the cup with a loud clank.

Aiden just stood there, quiet and tense.

They headed to the main house, sneaking into the tea room through the back.

Oliver was standing by the window, staring out at the view. He didn’t say a word when Jackson came in.

Jackson, curious, looked past Oliver and spotted two kittens wrestling on the lawn. The little furballs were rolling all over each other in the morning dew, fur clumping together, looking both ridiculous and absolutely adorable.

“Jackson,” Oliver’s voice suddenly snapped him back to reality.
