You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 655

“You’ve got one week to wrap things up. Someone will come for you at eight tomorrow morning. Amelia, make sure everything’s ready,” Colby said, her tone all business.

Just as she reached the door, Colby paused, remembering Patricia’s instructions. Her high heels clicked as she turned, cool as ever. “Amelia, you know what Mr. Martin is capable of. When the big players go to war, it’s always the bystanders who get hurt. Don’t get involved.”

Amelia nodded, almost too quickly. “No worries, Colby. I wouldn’t dare try anything.”

The handover was done in less than a week.

Colby personally came downstairs to see Amelia off.

Right before Amelia left, Colby slipped an envelope into her storage box. “This is Mr. Martin’s going-away gift for you.”

“Mr. Martin says you’re talented, Amelia. You deserve somewhere better.”

It was Patricia’s way of rewarding her for knowing when to step back.

From Colby’s point of view, Patricia was starting to look more and more like Oliver.

Amelia got into her car, nerves jangling, and carefully opened the letter Patricia had given her.

Inside was the address of a tech company.

She immediately grabbed her phone and searched it up.

That’s when she saw that the company was actually a branch under Pacific Capital.

And just like that, all the gloom that had been hanging over her for a week disappeared.

Clutching the letter, she leaned over the steering wheel and cried happy tears.

She wiped her eyes, pulled out her phone, and messaged Patricia: “Thank you, Mr. Martin. If you ever need anything, I’ll do whatever it takes.”

Upstairs in the penthouse, Patricia set her phone on the desk and folded her hands under her chin.

The seriousness in her eyes lingered.

After a long moment, she let out a sudden, wry laugh.

People are funny, she thought. When things are going well, any help you give them feels deserved. But break them down and then offer a crutch, and they’ll remember it forever.

Patricia slowly spun her chair toward the window, twirling a pen between her fingers, a cold and mocking smile at the corner of her lips.

……

Late September.
