You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 675

“What you said back there in the ballroom was totally unnecessary.”

In the patrol car, Brandon’s partner kept his hands tight on the wheel, glancing over with a frown. “If Tina gets off and decides to turn this around on you, you know you could get demoted, right?”

This kind of thing happened all the time. You could pile up all the evidence in the world, but a couple of words from someone with power always carried more weight. More than once they’d made it all the way to an airtight case, witnesses lined up and evidence locked down, only to have someone important flip the script and drag the cops into court instead.

If the other side had a conscience, they’d just let it go quietly. If not, they’d fight back with everything they had, even if it meant ruining a cop’s career.

Brandon leaned his head against the window, eyes closing for a second. He couldn’t get the image out of his mind—Oliver grabbing Patricia’s hand and hauling her away, then kicking Tina hard in the stomach. The guy was brutal, almost savage. But from a woman’s point of view, there was something about him that felt safe, protective even.

“Hey, I’m talking to you!”

Brandon let out a breath. “She’s not going to get that chance.”

Power always crushed power. Tina was never going to come out on top.

His partner looked at him, half skeptical. “You sound pretty sure.”

“If a company exec gets arrested in public, upper management always does something. They’ll send lawyers, or someone higher up will show up and try to smooth things over. Did you see anyone like that today?”

“No, right? Exactly. No one’s coming for her.”

If Patricia didn’t take the opportunity to kick Tina while she was down, that would be a surprise. At best, she’d just leave her be.
