"Jackson!"
"Jackson!"
"Keep going and someone’s going to end up in the morgue."
Hector and Roger rushed in with Oliver the moment they got the call.
The second they stepped into the ER, they saw a crowd packed in the middle of the hallway.
It didn’t take long to figure out why—Jackson had Aiden pinned to the ground, fists flying.
Hector and Roger grabbed Jackson together and managed to drag him off.
Jackson shook them off like they were nothing, storming straight to the other side of the ER—just in time to block Oliver, who was about to yank open the privacy curtain, desperation all over his face.
Oliver’s jaw was tight as he stared Jackson down, eyes dark and voice like ice. "Move."
"Didn’t Aiden call you ages ago, Mr. Padilla? What took you so long to get here?"
Trying to break up the tension, Hector stepped in with a strained smile. "Jackson, it’s rush hour. The traffic was insane. The second we heard, we dropped everything and got here as fast as we could."
Roger chimed in, "Seriously, we had to ditch the car two blocks away. Mr. Padilla sprinted the rest of the way."
Jackson took in Oliver’s sweat-soaked hair and crumpled shirt. He didn’t look like the polished man they all knew—he looked exhausted, frantic.
"If Mr. Padilla is such a control freak, why not stay closer to Miss Patricia’s place?"
Hector winced. Oh God, is Jackson trying to get himself killed?
But Jackson kept going. "Maybe you should check your fancy security cameras. Tell me, Mr. Padilla, when you sent Aiden to stay with Patricia, was it to protect her or to spy on her? Why, when she was in real danger, was Aiden busy calling you instead of helping? He saw what was happening, and the first thing he did was call you, not help save her. Explain that."
"Why not just focus on your business dinners, Mr. Padilla? Why call Aiden every five minutes? Even when you’re busy, you never stop checking up on Patricia. Do you only care when someone gets hurt? Only panic when it’s too late?"
Oliver’s chest rose and fell, barely holding back his rage.
