"Mr. Martin, our finances are looking shaky."
"What does that mean, exactly?"
At Skyline Entertainment, Ruby stared at the report her accountant just handed over.
"Since the Martin Group cut off funding, all our big projects are stuck. Nothing's moving forward."
"But didn't we have a movie out recently?"
"It didn't do well. The box office barely covered our costs. We didn't really make any money."
Ruby's expression turned stormy. The accountant avoided her gaze, nervous. She remembered how things used to be, when money flowed in so easily that no one ever worried about cash flow. Now, everything felt like it was falling apart...
With Emerson and Tina both arrested, Skyline Entertainment was barely holding on. People around the office had been whispering for weeks, some even betting on how long the company would last. If Emerson and Tina hadn't killed Patricia's parents, maybe things would be different. But they did, and there was no way Patricia would let Ruby get another cent from the Martin Group.
"I get it. I'll figure something out. Go ahead and get back to work."
The accountant nodded quickly and left, not daring to say more. As soon as he stepped out, he spotted Amy walking down the hall with her bag. Amy was legendary in her own way. She and the boss had once been involved with the same man, and the fallout nearly ruined her career. Now, with the company in trouble, the execs had brought her back. From her outfit, she must have just come from a commercial shoot.
"Hey, Amy."
She nodded and headed straight for her manager's office.
"I heard people saying the company might not make it," Amy said as she sat in the business van, carefully wiping green nail polish from her fingers with a cotton pad. She hated the color, but it was for work.
"Who told you that?" her manager asked, surprised. "Weren't you supposed to be on vacation in Australia, hanging out with kangaroos or something? How do you even know about the gossip?"
"I'll stick to the veggies," Amy said. Being a celebrity meant always dieting, and she was honestly so tired of it.
...
Patricia sat at a café, looking across the table at Theo. It had been six months since they'd seen each other, and she never thought they’d be able to sit together like this, calm and almost at peace. Who would have imagined it? After all the battles between them, here they were. Life is weird sometimes.
Patricia sat up straight, her fingers circling the rim of her coffee cup.
"I didn't expect you to come back, Mr. Newton."
Everyone in Riverdale knew the story. Patricia had sent the Newton family packing, and the whole town talked about it. Because of them, the Martin family had gotten a reputation for being absolutely ruthless.
