You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 758

"Shut up!" Ruby shouted, her voice cracking with rage as she snatched up a golf club from by the door and swung it at Patricia.

Patricia caught the club without even flinching and tossed it down the hall.

"Why should I shut up? You're the one who cheated. You were sleeping with someone else while you were still with Theo. You got pregnant and tried to make it his problem. That’s why you set up that whole kidnapping stunt. I just happened to show up and messed up your plan, didn’t I? You never thought I’d get in the way. You definitely didn’t see those thugs breaking my leg or me forcing Theo to marry me coming."

Patricia's eyes glittered with challenge. "Don’t you want to know why I suddenly insisted on marrying Theo?"

Ruby stared at her, stunned, her back pressed against the door. She was shaking so hard she could barely stand.

"You knew? You knew about my plan the whole time? So you pretended to be Theo’s hero just to make him marry you? You never wanted him. You never loved him. Actually, you hated him because of me. But you still agreed to marry someone you didn’t love, just to ruin my life?"

Patricia let out a laugh that echoed down the hallway, sharp and wild, like something out of a nightmare.

"Yeah, that’s right. I wanted to see what you’d do if Theo refused to marry you. Would you get rid of the baby, or would you have it in secret? I wanted to watch you hit rock bottom. You spent your whole life wanting to marry him. Tina spent years drilling it into your head that you were destined to be Mrs. Newton. I just wanted to see what would happen when all that effort turned into nothing."

"You all wanted your perfect ending. I wanted to make sure you never got it."

And in the end? Theo married her anyway.

"Everyone thought you went abroad because you were heartbroken, but really, you left to have a baby. And you didn’t even know who the father was until after he was born. You’re so selfless, right? Dropping your baby on someone’s doorstep and then rushing back home as soon as your body bounced back."

"He won’t know."

"How could he know?"

Her laughter came out broken, tangled up with sobs. She looked almost unhinged, laughing and crying at the same time. "He won’t know. He’ll never know."

Suddenly, the door to the fire escape flew open.

Theo stood there in a black coat, his eyes fixed on Ruby. The look he gave her was cold, like she was nothing but a stranger.
