You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 776

He’d gotten so careful about what she ate, always worried she might get pregnant without either of them knowing, and that she’d accidentally eat something she shouldn’t. Whenever Sara wanted to grab fast food with her, she had to get his okay first. If he found out she’d eaten anything questionable, it would turn into a whole ordeal.

They’d been together for a year now, not exactly holding back, but there’d been no sign of a baby. Then, right in the middle of their worst fight ever, it finally happened.

“The test results look fine for now,” the doctor said, “but abdominal pain in early pregnancy can be unpredictable. You need to keep a close eye on it. If it happens again, come to the hospital right away. And try to keep your mood as relaxed and positive as you can.”

“Thank you,” Patricia said softly.

The doctor noticed how polite she was and went on to give a few more tips, just in case.

Chelsea stayed quiet the whole way out of the hospital. She didn’t say a word until they got into the car. “Are we going home?”

“No, to the office.”

“You’re serious? You’re going to work like this?” Chelsea ran her fingers through her hair, looking worried. “I’m really getting nervous. Maybe you should call Oliver. If something goes wrong and I didn’t tell him, he’ll never forgive me. And by the way, Sara told me Oliver already thinks she’s a bad influence on you. If he finds out about this, what if he blames me too?”

Patricia smiled a little and tried to be patient. “I have a meeting with Riley, the old boss at Skyline Entertainment. I need to talk to him about the mess Ruby left. If I don’t fix this fast, it could get ugly.”

Chelsea realized Patricia wasn’t trying to distract herself with busywork, so she started the car without another word. “Is whatever Ruby did really that bad?”

“I think she used Skyline Entertainment to launder money, but there’s no real proof.”

“Can’t you just check her accounts overseas?”

“It’s not that simple. If she really went through all the trouble to launder money, she wouldn’t leave anything for us to find.” Even thinking about Tina made Patricia uneasy. Tina had been way too calm lately. The way Patricia knew her, if someone confronted her and tried to embarrass her, she’d go off. But this time, Tina just stayed cool.

“Is Ruby even smart enough to pull that off?”

Riley’s expression grew serious. “Honestly, I think you might be right. But if you want me to find any real evidence, I’ll need to go through the company’s books myself.”

“Of course. If you’re free, I can have someone take you over there this afternoon.”

After walking Riley out, Patricia headed back to her office. Her desk phone was blinking, and Hector’s name was on the screen.

When she picked up, Hector sounded like he’d just let out a huge sigh of relief. “Pattie, you finally picked up.”

“Is something wrong, Mr. McKee?”

“It’s nothing urgent… except your husband was just rushed to the hospital in an ambulance…”
