You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 826

There was a photo of a moving truck attached.

This is the third trip…

Patricia stared at the message, not sure how to reply. Say the wrong thing and it might start another argument. After a few seconds of hesitation, she opened her banking app and sent over 100,000.

For your trouble.

Jackson’s reply came in right away. This is my job.

Don’t worry, Miss. I’ll make sure she’s taken care of, no matter what.

Patricia let out a small laugh. She was about to respond when voices floated over from behind her.

“Isn’t that the girl from the Hernandez family standing next to Oliver?”

“Yeah, it is! Didn’t people try to set them up a while back?”

“Who, you mean Mrs. Padilla?” someone nearby said, and the group burst into quiet, mocking laughter. There was a sharp edge to it, almost dismissive. “If Oliver actually married her, that’d be a waste. Like putting a beautiful flower in a pile of manure.”

Their laughter spread, low and reined in, but it was clear they were enjoying themselves.

“If they ever did get together, the tabloids would have a field day. The Hernandez family would be worshipped every holiday.”

Patricia listened to their teasing and shifted her gaze to the ballroom. Oliver was right in the center, dressed in a black suit that fit him perfectly, making him look every bit the picture of confidence and success. People crowded around him, both men and women, making the scene buzz with energy. On his right stood the woman from the Hernandez family.

Patricia studied her for a moment. She wasn’t ugly. Her looks just didn’t match the typical Chinese idea of beauty. She had a face that foreigners might find striking, almost like Mulan from a Disney movie, with a wide forehead and upturned eyes. There was something interesting about her.

Still, it seemed like the woman hadn’t figured out what style of makeup worked for her. Maybe because her looks weren’t trendy in Golden Bay, she’d gone with a classic, old-school Chinese look. The combination just didn’t work and made her look awkward.
