You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 851

Lydia’s gaze turned sharp. “Some things… you do them, and the universe is watching. As long as the old man is still with us, we won’t openly turn against each other, but that doesn’t mean we’ll just grit our teeth and put up with everything.”

“You tried to set Helena up with Oliver, and when that didn’t work, you kept scheming behind the scenes. Do I really have to go through every one of your tricks and lay them out? Every big family has its secrets, but I haven’t exposed you yet. If you really push me, though, it won’t just end with a polite cup of tea.”

Grace shot up from her seat, the chair scraping against the floor. “Are you threatening me?”

Lydia’s voice dropped, cold and heavy. Her eyes pinned Grace in place, icy enough to chill the room. “You smeared my son’s name. You tried to hurt my daughter-in-law and grandson. The only reason I haven’t gone after you is because of the old man.”

“You haven’t gone after me? Then what about last night?”

Back in the day, Lydia had fought through storms at Miles’s side. She was sharp, resourceful, and never at a loss for a plan. Grace had seen Lydia pull through impossible situations before. When Miles was in real trouble, it was Lydia who got him out.

Now, Lydia was older, supposedly retired and enjoying a quieter life at home. But that didn’t mean she’d lost her edge.

“You know it wasn’t me. They made the first move, not me.”

Lydia grabbed a file from the chair next to her and tossed it to Aaron. “Take a good look, Aaron. See how Grace spread those rumors? She doesn’t bother raising her own kid, but she’s become a pro at buying gossip and planting stories in the news.”

Aaron flipped through the file, his face going pale as he read through the call logs. Every number traced back to Grace, every call to a newspaper.

He stared at Grace, completely shocked.

“You bought off the tabloids to publish stories about Oliver?”

The moment they stepped into the living room, Aaron didn’t even send the maid away before turning to Grace.

Grace straightened up, her chin high. “Yeah, I did. I did it for this family.”

“I just wanted to use Helena’s guilt to get Nick a better future.”
