You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 884

The fight was over.

But the real chaos kicked off in the middle of the night.

Maybe it was the barbecue, or the ice water, or both. Either way, Patricia ended up with a nasty stomachache. She kept getting up, three, maybe four times, each trip to the bathroom taking longer than the last. Every time she tried to lie down, the baby started kicking up a storm, like he was protesting too.

Eventually, Oliver gave up on sleep. He sat with her in the bedroom, holding her close on the armchair. One arm around her shoulders, one hand gently rubbing her belly, trying to comfort both Patricia and their restless little one.

She barely slept at all. By morning, she looked pale and exhausted. The whole ordeal dragged on until nearly six, when Patricia’s breathing finally settled and she seemed to relax. Oliver glanced at Marian, who had been waiting nearby. Marian came over and helped him carefully move Patricia back to bed.

Once Patricia was settled, Marian headed downstairs for some rest. Oliver climbed into bed as quietly as he could, trying not to wake her. He had barely closed his eyes when his phone started vibrating like crazy on the nightstand, jolting Patricia awake.

He grabbed the phone, silencing the call, and pulled Patricia into his arms. He let her bury her face in his neck, waiting until her shaky breaths calmed down before letting go.

At six fifty, he was already rushing out the door. Before leaving, he woke up Sara to keep Patricia company in the master bedroom and reminded Marian to keep an extra eye on things.

The morning was a blur of meetings, and he didn’t get a chance to call Patricia back until almost ten. He had no clue how she was doing.

By the time the never-ending meeting finally wrapped up, it was nearly lunchtime. The Starlit Path team suggested grabbing a meal together, but Oliver explained that his wife was sick and he needed to get home. He asked the vice president to host in his place.

“No wonder everyone says Mr. Padilla is a family man,” one of the clients teased with a grin.

Oliver just smiled. “I don’t know about being a family man. I just try to do what I can as a husband. Sorry for not being a better host today.”

“Don’t mention it.”

They exchanged a few more polite words, and Oliver walked them to the elevator.
