You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 906

Toying with her? Seriously, did he even have the guts? From where Hector stood, it was obvious Chelsea was the one playing games with him. What chance did he have against her, really?

“Mayor Parsons, have you considered that maybe it’s your daughter toying with me?”

“I’ve never hidden the fact that I don’t believe in marriage. Your daughter knew that from the start, but she still chased after me. Then, after getting involved, she started seeing other people too.”

“Is this how you raised her? To treat men like fruit on a tree, taking a bite when she feels like it and tossing them away when she’s bored?”

“You think I’d dare mess around with her? I think you’re giving me way too much credit.”

When it came to love and breakups, everyone had their own side of the story.

Atticus listened to Hector’s words without budging. Instead, he asked, “Is this your way of complaining to me, Mr. McKee?”

“It was a fling between two adults. No talk of love, no future. If you want something casual, you have to accept it might end at any time. You’re a businessman. You should know that better than anyone.”

Atticus stubbed out his cigarette in the ashtray. His mind was made up. “I don’t care what went on before, but from now on, I don’t want you anywhere near my daughter.”

“If you’re going to end it, end it for good.”

“You don’t want marriage. She does. You’re headed in different directions. Ending things now is best for everyone.”

Hector’s voice went cold. “If we were so different, why didn’t she figure that out sooner?”

“Possessiveness isn’t love, Mr. McKee. You need to know the difference.”

“Young people always act out of pride, just to prove a point. What’s the point? You’re only lying to yourself and wasting everyone’s time.”
