The conference room door closed with a soft click.
At the head of the table, the man tapped his knuckles against the polished surface. “Let’s continue.”
Downstairs, Chelsea was in the middle of an easy, lively conversation. She and her companion were really starting to click, laughter and playful glances flowing back and forth.
Out of nowhere, someone grabbed her arm. Before she could react, she was half-dragged, half-scooped into a private elevator. The whole thing happened so fast, it barely took two minutes, but a few people passing by saw the whole thing play out with wide eyes.
Inside the elevator, Chelsea shook her arm free. “You can let go now, you know.”
She shot him a look. “It’s not like I’m going to fly out of here.”
Hector finally let go, turning to face her. “Have you been avoiding me?”
She didn’t even hesitate. “Yeah.”
“Why?”
Chelsea looked at him like he’d grown another head. “Why do you think? I’m trying not to get my legs broken by my dad.”
Hector frowned. “You’re his daughter.”
She rolled her eyes. “Which means he won’t even hesitate.”
Hector fell silent, clearly annoyed.
Chelsea wasn’t in the mood to argue. She glanced at the floor indicator as the elevator neared the top, reached out to press the button to go back down, but Hector caught her hand before she could.
“Can we talk?”
“Not now. I’m busy.”
He pressed, voice tight. “You in a hurry to go on another date?”
