A Vow of Deception, A Vow of Revenge novel Chapter 231

Even though her heart ached fiercely, she couldn't deny the truth. Brandon Gale had gotten addicted to gambling, drowned himself in debt, and then took money to run someone over. A life sentence was something he had brought entirely upon himself.

Her heart and her head were at war.

"It seems you don't know yet," Winona Thorne said, her voice cutting through Yvonne's turmoil. "Brandon is dead."

A dull roar filled Yvonne's ears. She snapped her head up, her eyes wide with disbelief as she stared at Winona.

"Dead…? He's dead? How? When did it happen?"

"Over a year ago. He killed himself in prison."

"Impossible!" Yvonne shot to her feet.

Elvis's brow furrowed, and he instinctively put a protective arm out in front of Winona.

But Yvonne wasn't even looking at them, her focus entirely consumed by the devastating news. "He wouldn't kill himself!" she cried, her voice trembling. "He promised he'd come find me and Lucy when he got out! He said he would make it up to us! Why would he commit suicide?"

A seed of doubt planted itself in Winona's mind.

When she'd first heard about Brandon's suicide, she hadn't given it a second thought. But after hearing Yvonne's story, something felt wrong.

Brandon had clearly been devoted to his wife and daughter, promising to reunite with them after his release.

Would a man like that really take his own life?

A chilling thought sliced through her mind.

*Silenced.*

All her previous reservations had vanished, replaced by a burning resolve. She and Winona now shared a common enemy, and she was desperate for the chance to stand in court and tell them everything she knew.

"Good," Winona nodded. "But I need to be clear about a few things. The trial won't happen right away. Until then, my people will have to keep an eye on you. This isn't about invading your privacy; it's to ensure you don't take your daughter and disappear."

"I understand. I have no problem with that," Yvonne replied without hesitation.

Running was the last thing on her mind. Now, the only thing that mattered was putting the real villain behind bars.

"You and your daughter will return to the States with us in a few days."

"Okay."

With the agreement settled, Winona rose to leave.
