A Vow of Deception, A Vow of Revenge novel Chapter 232

Deep down, a part of her resented Yvonne.

But she knew who truly deserved her hatred, and she knew who belonged in prison.

Whatever Yvonne's reasons were for agreeing to testify, her willingness to take the stand was a form of atonement. Even if Yvonne didn't know who was pulling the strings, she could prove that Brandon had been paid to hit her, and that was crucial.

Elvis and Winona left the room together, but just before stepping out, he paused and turned, his gaze falling coldly on Yvonne.

“Remember this,” he said, his voice hard as ice. “You've already agreed. There's no backing out now.”

The menace in his tone sent a jolt of fear through Yvonne, pulling her from her grief. She nodded frantically. “I know. I won't back out, I promise.”

She still had her daughter to think about. For Lucy's sake, she had to see this through.

Elvis said nothing more and walked out.

Once they were in the hallway, Winona spoke. “We have to keep it a secret that we found Yvonne.”

“I'll handle everything, don't worry about it.” Elvis looked at her, his eyes full of concern. “Winona, are you okay?”

Winona didn't answer right away. After a long moment, she leaned against his shoulder, and silent tears began to fall. She was relieved they had found their key witness, but it also brought the trauma of the crash rushing back—the pain, the memories, and the crushing reality that she could never dance again. She needed this release.

Elvis wrapped an arm around her, gently patting her back as her tears soaked his shirt. He knew she needed to cry it out.

Her nose began to sting again. She rested her head back on his shoulder. “Of course I trust you. But I'm really okay now. I feel much better after crying.”

Just then, Sue returned with Lucy. The little girl was happily munching on a lollipop and clutching a large bag of snacks. A short walk and some treats were all it took to lift a child's spirits. She was even eager to share them with her mother.

Seeing Winona's red eyes, Lucy hesitated for a moment before walking over. She pulled a new lollipop from her bag and offered it to her.

“Don't cry, miss,” she said shyly. “You can have my candy.”

Winona couldn't bring herself to refuse the child's sweet gesture. She took the lollipop and managed a faint smile.

“Thank you.”
