A Vow of Deception, A Vow of Revenge novel Chapter 63

"Yes, yes, my Celia is the prettiest of them all."

"Ty, then let's pick up where we left off, shall we…"

Stepping out of the Goodwin Enterprises building, Winona drew in a deep breath.

Even the air seemed fresher now.

In two days, on the fifteenth, she'd be flying back to The Capital.

Just thinking about returning home made her think of Elvis.

She hadn't spoken to him at all in the past few days.

But come the fifteenth, she'd be sharing Elvis's private jet back to The Capital.

Winona had wanted to keep her distance from Elvis, but the arrangements had already been made; if she suddenly backed out now, it would just be awkward and childish.

She tried to reassure herself—there was nothing strange about this. Even without the engagement, the Thorne and Rogers families had plenty of business collaborations ahead. Besides, Elvis just happened to be flying back the same day; hitching a ride on his plane was perfectly normal.

That was how she'd seen it—at first.

But now, something in her had shifted, in some way she couldn't quite name.

Her phone rang, snapping her out of her thoughts.

It was Mr. Ford calling.

"Mr. Ford?"

"Nona! You've handed in your resignation, right?" Mr. Ford's voice brimmed with cheer.

"Yes, it's all wrapped up," Winona replied, her tone light with relief.

"Wonderful, just wonderful!" Mr. Ford sounded as if he might break into applause. "Honestly, you—The Thorne heiress—working as someone's secretary. And for that brat, no less… Ah, never mind, it's all in the past. Let's not talk about it! Listen, I've got a little get-together tonight. Want to come celebrate your escape from the salt mines?"

The man was Marcus Clarke, one of Tyson's close buddies. His family's company did some business with a Thorne Group subsidiary, so he'd tagged along to tonight's party.

"What do you mean, calling her that?" Mr. Ford frowned. "She's my niece, and she's not married—watch how you address her!"

Marcus shrank back a little, startled but mostly shocked.

He'd known Mr. Ford was an executive at the Thorne Group, but he'd never realized Winona was his niece. Tyson had never mentioned it—not once! Did Tyson even know himself?

"It's fine, Mr. Ford," Winona said with a reassuring smile. She turned to Marcus. "Mr. Clarke, Tyson and I have broken up. Please don't call me that anymore."

"What!"

Marcus's eyes widened, even more astonished.

Everyone in Tyson's circle knew how much Winona had loved him, how much she'd done for him.

And now she and Tyson had split up?
