Because she was marrying for love. She was marrying the man she loved!
She had lined up at City Hall before the staff had even arrived for work.
Julius hadn't shown up until the afternoon, his expression cold and distant, but she hadn't held it against him.
When they took their marriage license photo, she was as giddy as a child with candy, while Julius's face was an icy mask.
Still, she had been happy.
She thought it was the beginning of a life of bliss.
Who knew it was the start of a tragedy…
Julius stepped out of the car just as Wayne pulled up.
Julius and Janina walked to the entrance of City Hall.
Wayne got a file folder from his car and handed a newly drafted divorce agreement to Janina.
"Ma'… Miss Holt, this is the new agreement the president had me draw up. Please review it. If there are no issues, you can sign here."
Janina took the agreement and flipped through it.
That bastard. He was really trying to cut her off without a cent.
With a scornful glance, Janina threw the papers on the ground. "Four million dollars. Not a penny less. Otherwise, I'll see you in court, and I'll make sure everyone sees those intimate photos of you and Yvonne."
"And by the way, I wasn't kidding about making a scene at your company. If I don't see the money in my account by the end of the day, those pictures will be all over the internet tomorrow. I'm not afraid of anything anymore."
With that, she turned and walked into the City Hall lobby. If he thought she'd leave with nothing, he was dreaming.
Seeing the look of raw, determined hatred on her face, Julius felt a sharp pang in his chest.
His heart sank.
Janina was so resolute. The last shred of foolish hope he'd been clinging to finally dissolved.
He hadn't really intended to leave her penniless. He was just trying to force her to back down, to stop the divorce.
But her defiance only fueled his anger.
