What Wayne meant was: he had thought about going up to knock on the door, but he was afraid of interrupting Julius and Miss Moore. In the end, he decided it was safer to just wait outside and avoid getting caught in the crossfire.
Julius frowned, his fingers lacing together as a storm brewed in his eyes. After a moment of silence, he asked in a cold voice, "How did Yvonne know I was at the club?"
Wayne, of course, had no idea. He shook his head. "I'm not sure, sir."
Julius leaned back against the seat, replaying the scene at the police station in his mind—the photos of him and Yvonne in bed that Janina had shown them. For the first time, a seed of doubt about Yvonne was planted.
From the angle of the pictures, Yvonne was the only one who could have taken them.
He had been completely out of it at the time. That meant Yvonne must have secretly taken those photos while he was asleep and sent them to Janina.
Julius rubbed his temples. He decided to call Yvonne and ask her for an explanation.
He took out his phone, found her number, and dialed.
The second she answered, Julius cut to the chase. "Yvonne, why did you secretly take private photos of us and send them to Janina?"
His cold, accusatory tone made Yvonne's heart tremble.
Her voice came back small and laced with grievance, punctuated by soft sobs.
"Julius, I… I admit I sent the photos. But I was only doing it to help you two make up."
Yvonne sounded more and more wronged, her crying growing louder. She paused, then continued.
"I know you two have been giving each other the silent treatment. I just thought… I thought if Miss Holt saw those pictures, she would get jealous. It would make her feel a sense of urgency, and then she'd come back to you."
"Julius, I honestly want you two to get back together. Even though we… we did something wrong last night, I promise I won't tell anyone."
"But I never thought Miss Holt would actually call the police… Julius, I'm so sorry. It was wrong of me to do that without your permission. I…"
Listening to her explanation, Julius felt a wave of helplessness. Was that really what she had been thinking?
