Janina nodded. "I've decided. I'm not keeping it. Having a child now would just get in the way of my career. And if I wait too long, it'll be harder on my body. I don't want to drag this out."
Now that they were divorced, carrying her ex-husband's child just felt… strange.
Being a single mother wasn't easy, and raising a child was a huge responsibility.
"Okay," Maggie said. "This way, there won't be any lingering ties between you two."
In the week since the divorce, Julius had sent people to inquire about Janina's whereabouts multiple times. Who knew what her ex-husband was up to.
Without a child connecting them, they could make a cleaner break.
The hospital was crowded. It took over an hour just to register and see a doctor. The doctor gave her a requisition for an ultrasound, explaining they needed to check the fetus's development before scheduling the termination procedure.
The two of them headed to the ultrasound department. The waiting room was packed.
They got a number and stood for over an hour since there were no seats left. Finally, it was Janina's turn.
The exam itself was quick, over in just a couple of minutes.
As Janina and Maggie were taking the report back to the doctor, a voice called out from behind them.
Janina instinctively turned and saw a handsome man in a white lab coat.
Darren!
He was one of Julius's friends. Janina had met him a few times.
A year ago, Julius's mother, Elena, desperate for Janina to get pregnant, had even asked Darren to recommend a good gynecologist to speed things up.
At the time, Janina had been trying to protect Julius's ego and hadn't told the whole truth.
The problem wasn't that she couldn't conceive; it was that Julius sometimes only came home once every few months.
They rarely slept together, so of course, getting pregnant wasn't going to be easy.
Still, Janina had gone along with Elena's arrangements and had met Darren at the hospital a few times.
This was the first time she'd seen him since her appointment three months ago.
