Alpha’s Betrayal Luna’s Revenge (Samantha) novel Chapter 19

Ellie’s POV

John looked worried when I burst into the police station and approached him. “How can I help you, Ellie?” He asked, putting down his pen. John knows I would never visit the police station for a personal matter.

I leaned on the counter and took a deep breath. I need to stay calm. “I need to inform you of a case of animal cruelty which resulted in the animal being put to sleep.” John lifted his pen, ready to take down some basic details. As he began asking me questions, the door opened behind me, and I could smell his stench.

“I can’t believe you came,” Noddy spoke from behind me. “I want to file an assault charge against that bitch. She broke my nose,” he shouted over me. John looked up at his clipboard, giving me a questioning look. Folks in South View and for miles around know I have an attitude. But the reason they come to me is that they know l am good at what I do. They know that I care deeply for their animals and will do my best for them without ripping them off.

That is what keeps me in business.

“Don’t be so damned rude, Noddy. The lady was here first, and she was speaking. I will be with you in a minute, Noddy. Wait your turn,” John said before looking at me.” Now, back to what you were telling me about Ellie?”

“A German shepherd was brought to my clinic. He had been bound and left to die.” I told John. Noddy went quiet.John won’t ask any further questions. He is just taking the most basic of details from me as the full investigation will want the in-depth details.

Noddy only came to town a few years ago and lives on the outskirts of town. I had met Dastin a few times, which is how I knew who his owner was. I doubt Noddy knows how the people of this town view animal abusers. I raised my voice so that everyone could hear me. “Yes. He was bound –

– with barbed wire and dumped in a ditch. I want the owner prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I want the case to be put before Judge Ford. He hates animal abusers. To him, animal abusers are a notch above sexual predators.” John suppressed a smile. What I said about Judge Ford is true, but I can’t tell a judge to take a case. What I was saying attracted the attention of two more officers, who began muttering. I turned around and pointed at Noddy.” Just for clarification, and so everyone knows what he looks like. Dastin was Noddy Andrews dog.” Noddy looked like a rabbit in headlights. He could have made excuses, Like Dastin had been kidnapped, or that he ran off. But he didn’t; he simply backed out of the door.

“We’ll get your statement, Ellie. Before any accusations are made,” John said, pointing at a bench. “Take a seat,” John said loudly, so his colleagues could hear him, reminding them they had a job before any arrests were made.

I sat and pulled out my phone. I might as well make the most of the time and complete my daily Sudoku. I was in the middle of a puzzle when I received a text message. ‘Are you free later?’ I couldn’t believe it. Well, I could. What I couldn’t believe was that John, who was standing only a few feet in front of me, had texted me. What are we, in high school? Well, two can play that game. I got to my feet and walked over to the desk he was standing behind.

I placed my phone on the counter and swiped it open. I leaned on the counter as I responded. ‘Perhaps’. His phone pinged, and I smiled as he pulled it out of his pocket.

The door opened behind me, and the scent of a wolf drifted in. Kiki growled instantly, partly because of the danger and partly because she liked it. I looked over as a tall, dark-haired, tanned, delicious-looking stranger appeared by my side. He placed his hands on the counter and looked down at me. “Can I help you?” John asked him.

He looked at John, and then he looked at me. “Some of my buddies and I will be heading this way in a few weeks. I’m just doing a bit of recon to see if there is anything in the area we need to be concerned about,” he lied. “He’s lying.

Shifters don’t care what animals are in the vicinity. If anything, they like a challenging kill.” Kiki said.

John slowly shook his head. “It’s pretty quiet around these parts. Other than a wolf attack a few weeks ago.”

“A wolf attack?” The stranger gave his attention to John.

“Yes. It willed three men. We never caught the wolf. But there hasn’t been anything since. No one has even reported a wolf sighting since that night.” Knowing the NDA would protect Sam, I stood up. My hand brushed against the stranger’s.”TIl come back and file that report, John. I have to get back and take care of Dastin. Do you want me to send pictures, or do you want someone else to do it?” John reached under the counter and handed me a camera. Asking me to take pictures of cruelty for the case against Noddy. I took the camera and walked out of the police station.

As I walked outside, footsteps followed me. “I’m surprised to find someone like you here,” the strange man said.

“I’m surprised someone like you would even visit a place

Like this,” I responded. He stepped closer to me.

“What brings you to these parts?” I inquired.

“Someone I know went missing. I’m trying to find her,” he responded. Before his phone rang. Whoever it was shouted a lot. “Fine, I’ll be back in a few hours.” Jaxon frowned as he looked at me. “I have to go. But maybe I’lL come back one day and help you with those needs,” he said as he stroked my arm. “Who should I ask for when I return 1 grinned at Jaxon. “Where would the fun be in that if I told you that?” I bit my lip. “Maybe I want the thrill of the chase.” Jaxon’s jaw dropped. I wonder if he’s used to she-wolves dropping their panties for him. Never having to work for it or be challenged.

“Fucking demanding Alpha. Ruining what could have been an amazing bit of fun,” Jaxon cursed, causing me to snicker.

“Yes. You do what your Alpha tells you. I’ll just wander around aimlessly, doing as I please. Doing who I please,” | taunted, pressing my finger into his chest. I felt sick touching him, but if I go from being flirtatious to being nervous, he may get suspicious. “Until we meet again, Jaxon.” At least next time, I won’t have to act so innocent.

He grabbed my finger. “Until we meet again.” He repeats with a smile on his face. With that, I turned and walked away. I walked slowly at first in case he was watching.

When I was sure he was gone, I raced to the clinic. I called out for Sam as soon as I walked through the door.

“Get home, get some stuff. We have to get you out of here.” I said, fiddling with the camera in my hand. Sam was my priority. But Dastin was important, and his abuser needed to be brought to justice.

“Why? What happened?” Sam questioned

“I just met Jaxon from the Shadow Pack. He’s looking for you.” Sam froze and began to shake. “We need to get your stuff and get you out of here.”
