Alpha’s Betrayal Luna’s Revenge (Samantha) novel Chapter 18

Ellie’s POV

“Come on,” Sam yelled at me. She has been staying with me for over a month now. She has come along leaps and bounds, gaining weight and confidence. Other than the scars and the nightmares, you would think nothing had happened to her. She has been working with me at the clinic every day, performing remedial tasks. But she is happy to do it, and l am glad to let her. We have grown close, as have our wolves. I want to say she is my friend, but Sam doesn’t like that word, which I can understand.

The one thing I have noticed about Sam is her love for the young, no matter the form. She especially loves it when a child brings a puppy into the clinic; it brings something out in her that I wish I could see every minute of every day. It will explain why she tried to save Jessica and Zeb that night. She has such a strong, loving instinct. I can see her being a great mother, and I can also see her being an educator to young children. She is patient, kind, and passionate.

The thing that got Sam excited today, though, was that Farmer Clayton was bringing his sheepdog, Freya, in for a checkup. She gave birth to six puppies a few weeks ago.

He wanted Freya checked over, and he wanted the puppies vaccinated, as he had found homes for all of them. I checked each puppy individually, after which I administered their vaccinations. Sam occupied the puppies waiting to be seen, while Clayton and Freyacomforted the one that had already had its shots.

A loud bang from the reception area irritated me. “There’s no need to practically kick my door in,” | yelled, rushing out to see who was making such a racket so I could give them a piece of my mind. But my annoyance disappeared when I saw the animalin the arms of Paul Taylor. “I found him in a ditch, by the side of the road,” Paul shouted at me as he walked toward me. It was Dastin, a German Shepherd belonging to Noddy Andrews. He had barbed wire tightly wrapped around his mouth and neck.

I looked at the dog in Paul’s arms. He was barely breathing. I got angry. This was no way to treat an animal.

If Noddy didn’t want him, he could have brought him to me. I would have found him a suitable home to live out his remaining days. But this, this was torture. Sam screamed, while Freya and the pups whined, which made me realize l was the one hurting them. “Ellie, focus, Dastin needs you,” Kiki scolded me, and she was right. Because no matter what I was feeling, I had a job to do.

I rushed into the clinic room and apologized to Farmer Clayton, telling him I had an emergency and I needed the room. He understood and scooped up all the pups, rushing out of the door.

After composing herself, Sam stared in shock as Paul pushed past her and placed Dastin on my examination table. I shone a torch in his eyes to see if there was movement. Thankfully, there was which meant he was alive. Now, if everything went well, there was a chance l could save him.

“Get my wire gutters,” I shouted at Sam. She didn’t move.

Sam. He needs help. Get my wire gutters or get out.” I told her sternly. I didn’t have time to be polite, not when poor Dastin was suffering.

I ran my hands through Dastin’s fur, talking to him reassuringly, before placing my wrist in front of his snout, allowing him to breathe in my scent. I told him I would do my best to help him. I could tell he had been like this for days, which made me angry. “Don’t get worked up, Ellie,”.

Kiki warned. She was right to do so. If this were the end for Dastin, I wouldn’t want him to be in pain. I would never want that for any animal, especially one that had been tortured.

“Here,” Sam said, passing me my tool. She was pale as she stared at Dastin.

“You can leave if you want,” I told Sam, concerned she might be having flashbacks. She shook her head.

“I can help.”

The barbed wire was wrapped so tightly around his neck that I had to dig one end of the cutters into Dastin’s flesh.

I cursed, fearing I was hurting him, but in a few seconds it would be gone.

Remaining calm, knowing there was a Rottweiler in the bar. I walked into the establishment.

I tracked his voice to the bar. There he was, sure as hell, perched on a barstool. His bald head made him easily noticeable among the surrounding men. He was drinking beer and laughing.

I walked past everyone and tapped Noddy on the shoulder. As he turned to me, 1 punched him in the face before he could say a word. The feeling of his nose breaking brought me great delight. Noddy fell to the ground, covering his nose with his hands. It wouldn’t help Dastin, but it made me feel a lot better.

“I’m gonna kill you, Ellie. You crazy bitch.” Noddy yelled at me. The surrounding men laughed at him.

I crouched in front of him and, as calmly as I could, I told him, “You’re such a big man, Noddy Andrews. Do you think.

I am someone you can bully or intimidate? You only pick on those who can’t fight back. Well, I tell you what, you Lowlife piece of shit. I am more than capable of fighting back, and l am not scared of you.”

I had a lot more to say, but a dog’s whimpering distracted me, making me realize that maybe I was angrier than! should be. I got up to walk away. “I’m going to get you arrested, Ellie. Nobody gets away with hitting me.” Noddy shouted at me.

I turned back to face Noddy. “I’ll be waiting for you,” I snapped as I walked away. Noddy didn’t know that I knew about Dastin. He didn’t know where I was going. I also know he won’t report me for assaulting him, as it will hurt his hard-man image. I am, after all, a woman. What power do I have?
