Sam’s POV
It was three days until Frank’s funeral and only five days until the full moon. Five days until 1 am marked. I still have my apprehensions, but Zola didn’t. She felt Caspian was my true mate, but to find him, something dramatic had to happen. Whereas, I think it’s the goddess trying to make amends.
Reagan and I planned on travelling to South View after the funeral, so that I could share my news with Ellie. I didn’t know how she would take it, as I still hadn’t told her about Caspian. I was hoping she would come back with us as Ellie will want to meet Caspian. The main concern I have is that she’s not a social person. But then again, she hasn’t been around many wolves. What if they insult her?
She’s likely to kill someone with that power of hers. But that is a worry for another day.
But what would happen afterward? Will I want to share Caspian’s life with him at the palace? It’s nice and all, but I am constantly escorted around, and it doesn’t have the freedom a home should have. There are also the people here. I can hear them snickering when I walk into a room.
Snickering and looking. I’d rather not bother Caspian with my concerns in case I am simply being paranoid. So I stay quiet and keep my thoughts to myself.
Then I thought of Reagan and Ellie. They are a huge part of my life. How often would I see them? They are so important to me that I wouldn’t want to lose either of them. But Ellie won’t stay here, and I won’t see Reagan as much.
I suspected Caspian would want our ceremony in the palace gardens. It is, after all, special to him, and our union is as much about him as it is about me. I was none too pleased to hear that the Alpha King planned on having his Luna Ceremony the day after ours. But when Caspian explained to me that we would have a beautifully decorated venue for our ceremony. I still think it will be too big, as there will just be the five of us.
But the Alpha King insisted. Caspian also told me that the Alpha King still feels awful about what happened to me and wanted to make amends. “If there is anything you want to make the ceremony special. He will make it happen,” Caspian told me. It was nice of him. But giving me space and allowing Ellie into the palace is enough. I had another thought, but that was something money couldn’t buy.
Ellie had finally returned to her clinic and stopped complaining about William. When we visit South View, I promised Zola she could go for a much-needed run with Kiki.
“Here, it was going off till late. But I didn’t want to disturb you,” Reagan told me as he handed me my phone over breakfast. Since I was sleeping so well around Caspian, I kept sleeping in his vicinity. Only on the condition that he kept his hands and body to himself. My phone showed I had eight missed phone calls. Why hadn’t Reagan answered it? I looked at the unfamiliar phone number but decided to call it as they wanted to get in touch with me. “Eaves Funeral Home. How can I help?” A man asked me. It was the funeral home where Frank’s body was.
“Hi, I missed several calls from this number, A friend of mine, Frank Newsham, is in your chapel of rest.”
“Let me pull his file,” the man told me. The line went quiet for a second. “For security reasons, can you confirm who you are?” he asked.
“Sam Holywell. I paid for the funeral,” I told him.
“So, the reason we were trying to contact you, Miss Holywell. Is that Mr Newsham is to be laid to rest in the general cemetery? But Captain Gobert just sent Mr.
Newsham’s service records to us. I noticed that Mr Newsham served our country and left on medical grounds. He should be buried at the veteran’s cemetery.
With all the other servicemen and women.” He informed me. I’m guessing it’s like when they bury people in special places because of what they did. “The reason for our call is that the first opening for the veterans’ cemetery is tomorrow, and I would need your consent if that is something you would like to go ahead with.”
“One second,” I asked, so I could explain the situation to Reagan. Who agreed that Frank deserved an honorable burial for his efforts? “We would like that,” I told thefuneral home. Who then told me they would get the paperwork organized.
After hanging up the phone, I wiped the tears from my eyes. “You know I’m coming. Frank was a friend of mine, too,” Reagan told me. I thought he might say that. “Stay here, eat your breakfast. Give me time to tell Caspian and prepare.” That was fair enough. He has been spending a lot of time working with Caspian lately.
As I sat and ate, I saw someone in the distance that I would rather not see, Evelyn. She was leaning over a table, talking to someone, and then watching something on a mobile phone. Before laughing like a hyena alongside everyone around her. I wasn’t interested, so I carried on eating. I was sipping my coffee, feeling disgusted, when I saw her sitting on a guy’s lap and kissing someone else.
“You wait until I tell the Alpha King,” Evelyn shouted at me. “He invited me here. I am his guest.” There was no chance Evelyn was the Alpha King’s chosen mate. Fuck, had I just publicly insulted the future Luna Queen?
“Get away from her,” Reagan yelled as he entered the room. His aura was impressive, and the majority of people dropped to their knees and bared their necks. I forgot he had an Alpha wolf, as I had not seen Callan for a long while. To me, it’s just Reagan. His aura didn’t bother Evelyn as much as it bothered everyone else. “Oh, here’s your pathetic, crippled knight in shining armor,” Evelyn said, smirking as she backed away from me. She pointed at me. “Next time, rogue, it’s you and me. One-on-one, and I’ll show you who’s in charge around here.”
“Bring it,” I yelled at her.
Reagan reached our table after Evelyn had disappeared. I began to cry. For weeks, I thought people were laughing at me because I was a rogue. But no, they were laughing at me because of that video. “I want to see everyone’s mobile phones,” Reagan demanded. There was a flurry of movement as a line formed. Reagan checked every phone, taking the names of anyone who had a video of me on it.
The head of security wants to see you.” He told anyone who did. After today, if anyone is found to have a copy of that video, they are to be banished. As of today, Sam is protected. Do you att hear me? She is protected.” I hope Caspian gives them hell. But more than that, I hope he finds out who took it in the first place and that he deals with them accordingly. This was too far.
“Come with me, Sam. We need to pack,” Reagan told me angrily. It’s not that he was angry with me. I knew that. It was the situation he had been put in. But what about Caspian? He has to deal with this, too. Not only that, what is Caspian going to do when he finds out his mate insulted the Alpha King’s mate? There will be consequences. He can’t lose his position because of me. What if the Alpha King banishes us?
I can’t believe how badly I’ve messed up. “She deserved it,”
Zola reassured me. I agree she did. Maybe we could stay at South View with Ellie. I was happy there. But would Caspian want to go there? He could reject me and save himself? Would he do that? I’ll worry about that when it happens. Right now, I have a funeral to prepare for.
