Alpha’s Betrayal Luna’s Revenge (Samantha) novel Chapter 57

Reagan’s POV

I watched as Ellie approached the male grizzly. She began stroking its head. It could wake at any time, and Ellie didn’t appear afraid; then again, she wasn’t afraid of it when it was awake. “Don’t worry, Daddy Bear. Your family is safe. They just need you to wake up and protect them.” She said it so gently that I was jealous. I stared in shock as she talked to the bear as if it were a child.

As she went to walk past me, she looked at my leg. Then she smiled at me. After being called a cripple earlier that day, I felt a little sensitive about it and moved my leg back a little. “That is so cool. It’s amazing what they can do these days,” Ellie told me. I was confused about how women saw my disability differently. “Ellie is so different from Lily,” I told Callan, who hadn’t once stopped panting whenever I looked at Ellie.

“Not everyone thinks so. Some people are disgusted by it.

Think I’m not a real man, or that Callan is not a real wolf.” I also know some people think my life is over because of it.

I know Callan is of that train of thought.

Ellie looked shocked. “Their idiots. Just look at it, it’s fantastic. The possibilities it offers. I’d love to find out more about it. I have so many questions.” She is curious about the scientific aspects of my prosthetic. That’s why she is being nice. She wants to study me.

“I’m happy to let her study you,” Callan quipped.”Not a chance, not with her attitude,” I responded, despite wanting to study her myself.

The male grizzly stirred. “Quick,” Ellie said, grabbing my hand and dragging me behind a large bush, one that gave us a full viewpoint. “He’s awake quicker than I expected.”

“How did you knock him and the others out in the first place?” I asked, knowing she didn’t use a tranquilizer gun.

“Like I would tell you my secrets. It’s not like you told me yours.” She snapped as she carried on watching what was happening. She was right. She doesn’t even know me. But she had never given me a chance. “Look,” she whispered, pushing up against me for a better view. She pointed and placed a hand on my bare chest as she lifted herself onto her tiptoes. Her palm was so soft, her hand warmed my skin.

I watched as the male bear walked over to the cub and nudged him awake. Ellie began bouncing on the balls of her feet. She looked at me full of excitement and happiness, slapping my chest in case I missed anything. I had never noticed her heavenly vanilla and apple scent earlier, but I did now that she was so close. The pair went over to the mama bear and did the same to her. The entire time, Ellie had the biggest grin on her face.

When the bears left. “All things considered. That was,” she placed her hand over her heart and looked at me,” everything I hoped it would have been.” She said gently. I knew what she meant. Seeing the cub reunited with its parents was memorable. “Even if I did have to be this close to you.” How did she take such a special moment

“Tell Sam I’m going for a run. I’ll be home later.” Ellie said as she took off her shirt, then she turned toward me. “Who is Caspian, by the way?” She asked. It’s not my place to tell her that. Nor did I want to, not when she finally confessed her problem with me. So I did something without discussing it with Callan first. Something I knew he was going to be mad. But I knew it would distract Ellie, as she had a soft spot for animals. “You can ask Sam that later. I was hoping to get some help from you while I was here.

It’s not for me. It’s for Callan, and it’s kind of

embarrassing.” Callan snarled so angrily at me that I knew he wasn’t happy. “With your expertise, could you try to help him?” She glared at me for a moment. I suspected she knew what I was doing.

“Please, Callan. Sam needs to tell her about Caspian. You were the first thing I thought about, and Ellie would do anything to help an animal,” I confessed. He threatened to make me suffer, and I knew he meant it.

“Sure. Shift and let’s take a look at him.” Ellie told me as she put her shirt back on. Great, now I get to embarrass my wolf in front of the woman we dream of. When I said earlier, could this day get any worse? It wasn’t a challenge.
