Alpha’s Betrayal Luna’s Revenge (Samantha) novel Chapter 89

Reagan’s POV

My phone died not long after leaving South View. I wanted to stop to buy a charging cable, but Ellie insisted that we didn’t stop. That we get to Sam as quickly as possible, only stopping for fuel along the way and paying at the pump to avoid queues.

Ellie spoke to me about how Sam had been since she had teft after her rescue. I felt awful about my part in making her feel that way. Sam deserved better. She then told me how Sam came to be at the rogue camp. “It was her choice to stay, and I had to let her. Trouble always seems to find her; I should have known.” She confessed. I didn’t necessarily agree with her, but Ellie had known Sam longer than I had.

After that conversation, Ellie sat in silence, nervously biting her nails. I prayed to the goddess repeatedly. Praying that Caspian and Hawk snapped out of their slump, got their act together, and rescued their mate. If they didn’t, I feared Hawk would go permanently dormant.

Leaving Caspian alone to confront the reality that they could have done something but didn’t. In the long run, it would destroy him. That’s why Caspian had to have made it in time. His life, as well as Sam’s, depended on it.

Then there is Ellie to worry about. She would go psycho crazy again, and I don’t know what I would do to stop her this time. Marking her may have been a one-off. If it happens again, I may have to seriously hurt her. My thoughts made Callan angry as I was planning a future in which Sam was dead. “I am confident Caspian made it in time; he wouldn’t have let Sam die. He loves her. Let’s stop speculating and deal with the situation when we get there,” Callan told me, hopefully.

“This car isn’t designed for this type of road,” I told Ellie as we bounced up and down the dirt road she guided me down.

“Just keep driving; it’s not far now,” Ellie told me just before the frontend of the car disappeared into a ditch. “Kiki will run ahead. You can catch up,” Ellie said as she climbed out of the car. It hurt Callan’s pride that he would never be able to keep up with Kiki. But now is not the time for him to be worried about his feelings.

I watched as Ellie stripped out of her clothes and rolled them into a ball for Kiki to carry. Then she shifted, and Kiki stood in front of the car.

Callan panted at the sight of her. I had to agree with him. Ellie is a beautiful woman, and she has a gorgeous wolf. She is the complete package; any shifter would be lucky to have her as a mate, including me.

1 watched as Kiki picked up the clothes in her mouth and raced down the road. I got out of the car and ran after her as fast as I could.

As I approached the rogue camp, I couldn’t help but catch the scent of blood. Looking around the camp, I saw that it seemed the rogues lived a simple life. But what was worse was that everything had been destroyed.

As I looked around, it appeared to be deserted, so why did I smell blood? Kiki’s white fur was easy to spot as she rushed around. She shifted, and Ellie got dressed. Ellie came rushing toward me. “I can’t find anyone.” She yelled, picking something off the ground and sniffing it.

“What the hell happened here?” I whispered. I did not understand what I was seeing. If Caspian made it in time, why was the place destroyed?

“Arguing is getting us nowhere. Let’s get to the palace and figure out what happened.” I suggested calmly in an attempt to de-escalate the situation.

“Good idea, because if Sam isn’t there, if Caspian never came for her. I will personally kill your brother.” The look on her face told me she was serious. But I had faith that Sam was safe. Where else would she be?

Before heading back to the car, Ellie told me to wait. She went into one of the larger broken tents. Returning with a small bunny teddy, it was gray and blue with floppy ears. “Kiki spotted it, but she didn’t want to get saliva on it. It belongs to baby Elis. I bought it for him on the day he was born. I want to return it to him,” Ellie said, gently rubbing the bunny’s ears. She looked so fragile, it hit me that Ellie cared for someone other than Sam. This was her way of showing it.

On the way to the car. Ellie asked, “How would anyone have found this place? It’s so hidden and isolated.” She was right. But that will be answered once I get hold of the formal report.

“Let’s find Sam first,” I told Ellie. All the while, praying that she was with Caspian at the palace.

After pushing the car out of the ditch, we traveled to the palace. The entire way there I hoped and prayed that Sam was there.
