Alpha’s Betrayal Luna’s Revenge (Samantha) novel Chapter 9

Zola’s POV

The last thing remember was Lily force-feeding Samantha a wolfsbane concoction. As it painfully absorbed into her bloodstream, I knew I would become dormant. Knowing I wouldn’t be able to communicate with Samantha drove me crazy. We are supposed to be together forever. But as I fell asleep, I feared I would never see her again.

I don’t know at what point I regained consciousness, but I knew with the amount of pain Samantha was in, I shouldn’t have. As I slowly regained my senses and thoughts, I heard Garth’s voice call my name, “Zola, if you can hear me. We’ve been set up. You need to get Samantha out of here. Get her to safety and live a happy life. She deserves that.” He tells me. That’s who saved us – our Gamma. But at what cost?

I tried to mindlink Cal, hoping to find out more information. But the connection between us was too weak. “Go,” Garth shouted at Samantha.

I felt Samantha’s physical pain as she reached for the handle of the door. I felt completely helpless, realizing was too weak to heal her. When Samantha tried to get out of the car, her weak legs couldn’t take her weight, causing her to collapse. It made me angry at what she had endured without me. What had Lily and Axel done to her?

“Zola, help me,” Samantha begged. Her pleas and Garth’s words made me understand how much danger she was in and that I needed to get Samantha to safety. When I shifted, it felt like my flesh was being ripped from my bones. It took everything in me not to cry out. But that would alert the border patrol to my location. Thankfully, no one noticed me. No, they were too busy guarding Cal.

I could go to his aid, stand by his side. Shift and let Samantha tell everyone what had happened to her. But Garth had said we had been set up. Axel and Lily would have acted swiftly to silence her. Knowing the pain Samantha was in, I know they have already tried. What I don’t understand is Gunner’s part in all of this. Why had he let any of this happen? I am his mate. His fated mate, he should love me unconditionally. He would never hurt Samantha. Or was he in on it, as he had allowed Axel to be unfaithful all of that time?

Hearing Gunner’s howl in the distance pulled me from my train of thought. Cal was causing enough of a distraction for me to escape. He was sacrificing himself to save me. I knew time was of the essence.

Having feared I would never have woken up. If I had the time, I might have savored the feeling of the dirt beneath my paws or the sun warming my fur. Instead, I rushed to the barricade and hid behind it. When I knew it was safe, I gritted my teeth and ran to the trees for cover. I ran as quickly as I could. Which was slow because of my non-healing injuries. visit j[o]bn{i}b . c(o)m to read the complete correct and complete books It felt like forever before I reached the territory’s edge. But as I stood there, I quickly evaluated my chances of getting away. My odds weren’t good. “Reject the pack.

Even if Cal delays Gunner, we are still pack members. Axel can use his alpha command to find us,” Samantha demanded. She was right. Cal was only slowing him down.

We had to help ourselves. A tear fell from my eye as l thought of Cal standing there alone. He didn’t deserve to die like that; he should die when he was old and with his family around him. Not at the hands of a wolf, he called a friend.

“I, Zola Wolf of Samantha Holywell. Chose to become a packless rogue. I no longer pledge allegiance to Alpha Ayel Thorne of the Shadow Pack. I reject Gunner as my fated mate.” Not feeling anything, I suspected the rejection had to be said out loud, rather than in my head.

So l painfully shifted, allowing Samantha to repeat my rejection.

Feeling a sharp pain in my head. I knew my connection to the pack had been severed. I wasn’t sure about the mate bond, though, as I had no pain in my heart. “Thank you, Goddess, for not making me suffer,” Samantha said just before we took our wolf form and ran. I couldn’t believe Samantha thanked the goddess. Where the hell was she when Samantha needed protection?

I watched Xavier walk directly toward me. Like a predator standing above his prey before administering the kill blow. Samantha screamed, and I cried, asI knew that my life was over. No matter what form Xavier is in, he could kill me easily. “I love you, Samantha,” I told her. At least l got to say goodbye to her this time.

Xavier stared at me while sniffing the air. “Look at the state of you.” He said in a disgusted tone, “Something’s not right,” he said, running his hands through his hair as if he was conflicted. I couldn’t communicate with Xavier to tell him about Axel and Lily. Would he even believe me if I could?

Then, Xavier did something I would never have expected.

He gave me a simple head nod before he grabbed himself and urinated on me. “Why would he do such a disgusting thing?” Sam questioned. But it was answered when Xavier brushed a pile of debris over me. Samantha shrieked as the light disappeared. I reassured her that this was an act of kindness from Xavier. Our scent was now disguised.

Despite his strong moral compass, Xavier had just saved us.
