Kaitlyn lost it right there. When Madison actually reached for her phone to call the police, Kaitlyn grabbed her arm in a panic.

"Wait! Maddie, w-we're best friends, right? You were mad at me yesterday, so I came today just to apologize."

Madison raised a brow at that.

Apologize? Please, Kaitlyn was just terrified of burning this bridge and losing her only shot at conning her way into the Quinn family's inheritance.

Madison looked at Eric. "Eric, go to the hospital and get checked out. Ask for an injury report."

After Eric left, Madison headed to the couch without even looking at Kaitlyn. "Let's start."

Kaitlyn froze. "Start what?"

Madison spoke without any mercy. "The apology. What, you think an apology is a throwaway line?"

A menacing glint flashed in Kaitlyn's eyes. Then, she took in the luxury villa and thought of Quinn Group and the inheritance Madison controlled.

She swallowed it down, put on a smile, and slipped an arm around Madison's shoulders, laughing. "Maddie, after all these years, you're not really mad at me, right? Yesterday was on me.

"I brought those friends—no, please, they're nobodies. I barely even know them. You're my only best friend. And since we're best friends, why would I try to take Johnny from you?

"If that's how you see me, you're being petty. Still, I'm the bigger person, so I'm here to apologize. If you drop the tantrum, I'll do anything you want."

Madison narrowed her eyes. Kaitlyn and Johnny were at fault, yet somehow she was the one getting called petty.

She couldn't help thinking about the past. She'd treated Kaitlyn like a friend, and because their families were worlds apart, she'd never let money come between them.
