"Maddie, why'd you order so much? Can you even finish it all?"

Kaitlyn's smile froze as resentment flickered in her eyes.

Across from her, Madison remained perfectly calm. She took only a small bite from each steak before setting the rest aside.

Catching Kaitlyn's gaze, Madison curved her lips into a faint smile. "If I can't finish it, then I won't. I haven't been in the mood lately, so my appetite's been bad too. I figured I'd try a little of everything. Is that a problem?"

Kaitlyn was about to snap, but the moment she heard Madison's explanation, she had no choice but to swallow her frustration.

"Of course not. As long as you're happy, you can eat me into bankruptcy if you want," she said sarcastically.

Madison's eyes narrowed slightly.

In the past, hearing Kaitlyn talk like that would've made her feel guilty, and she'd end up treating Kaitlyn even better.

But now, that act of Kaitlyn's didn't work on her anymore.

The smile on Madison's lips deepened. Her eyes flicked to the untouched steak in front of Kaitlyn. She asked deliberately, "Why aren't you eating? Are you not hungry?"

Rage flashed in Kaitlyn's eyes. This damn woman had ordered enough to cost her nearly a year's salary. How could she possibly have the appetite to eat? She could only hope some of it could be refunded later.

She pressed a hand to her empty stomach. She'd thought a few flattering words would be enough to make Madison forgive her like before and maybe even get Madison to apologize to her instead. Then she'd be back living in the Quinn residence, dining like a socialite, and attending elite events again.

That was why she hadn't eaten a thing before rushing to Madison's house. But unexpectedly, she could only sit there, watching without tasting a thing.

Madison raised an eyebrow and smiled. She easily saw through Kaitlyn's thoughts.

When she noticed Kaitlyn eyeing the dishes hungrily, Madison suddenly reached over and took her plate. "Well, since you're not hungry, I'll pack this up for Hallie."
