Back in Time to Fall for Him novel Chapter 34

Janet hadn't spoken loudly, but it was loud enough for everyone in the room to hear. For a moment, all eyes turned to her.

A few of them looked over at Janet and Madison with anticipation, clearly eager to see what would happen.

Just when everyone thought the two would start arguing, Madison simply smiled gently at Janet.

"You're totally right. I should really get my eyes checked. Will you accompany me to the appointment?"

Janet gazed at Madison in shock, and that familiar yet foreign smile left her momentarily dazed.

They had once been the kind of best friends who told each other everything. Then Kaitlyn came into the picture, and slowly, their bond began to fray.

After discovering Kaitlyn's ulterior motives in befriending Madison, Janet tried to warn Madison. But to her utter surprise, Madison, who had been well protected by Sam, didn't believe a word she said.

Madison even dragged Janet to face Kaitlyn, insisting they clear up what she thought was a misunderstanding.

At the time, Janet thought she could just confront Kaitlyn. However, the smooth and manipulative Kaitlyn was able to turn the tables, painting Janet as a jealous instigator who had failed to win Johnny's heart and then tried to cause trouble out of spite.

It was absurd. Janet would sooner fall for a total moron than someone like Johnny.

And yet, Madison, naive as ever, had believed Kaitlyn.

"Janet, how could you do that? Even though you knew I liked Johnny, you still went behind my back to confess to him? I was wrong about you. I don't want a two-faced friend like you!"

After that day, Madison had unilaterally severed ties with her.

Believing Madison was gullible and had been tricked, Janet tried to clarify things a few times, but each time, all she got were cold shoulders and Kaitlyn's taunts.

Over time, Janet grew bitter.

As the proud heiress of the Burke family, she would never tolerate being humiliated like that. From that point on, they parted ways. Even when they crossed paths at parties, they acted like enemies.

Thoughts of the past made Janet's wavering heart turn cold again. A look of derision appeared in her eyes.
