The room was brightly lit. Madison lay on the bed with her eyes tightly closed. Her rosy cheeks had become very pale.
Sam stood beside the bed, looking down at her with his brow furrowed. There was a dark, inscrutable look in his eyes.
At that moment, there was a knock on the door.
Sam turned and went to open it. A man who was about 25 years old stood outside. He was wearing silver-rimmed glasses.
It was Maddox, Sam's childhood friend. He looked at Sam's scratched cheek and the bite on his neck and let out a gasp. "Damn, Sam! You had a rough time, didn't you?"
Sam furrowed his brows slightly and hissed at him. "Shut up and come in!"
He turned around and went back inside.
Maddox went over to the bed and immediately saw Madison passed out on it. She looked very frail, as if she had been utterly broken.
"Oh, Sam. How could you be so rough with her?" Maddox made a mischievous face at Sam.
Sam knew that Maddox had misunderstood. He looked coldly at him and said, "Don't be silly. Go and examine her.
"Before you came, she suddenly went crazy and started scratching furiously at herself. No matter what I did to stop her, it was no use. In the end, I had to knock her out."
When Maddox heard this, he immediately turned serious and went to take Madison's pulse.
After examining her, Maddox turned to Sam with a stern look. "Sam, what did Ms. Quinn do before she suddenly had an episode?"
"What do you mean by an episode?" Sam asked instead of answering. He looked steadily back at Maddox, a heavy look in his eyes.
Maddox said, "Based on her pulse and the dilation of her pupils, Ms. Quinn suffered a triggering event, which induced her to self-harm."
"Triggered?" Sam's brow was furrowed tightly, and he immediately looked grim.
