Sam thought about how much Madison had changed over the past few days.

Could something have happened that twisted her feelings, turning affection into hatred and pushing her to get back at Johnny? And if that were true, did that make him part of her revenge plan, too?

The more Sam thought about it, the more his thoughts snarled, and the air around him seemed to press down.

Madison sensed the shift and figured he was thinking about the crap she'd pulled to avoid learning to run the company. Her face flushed at the thought.

Worried he would bring up the past, she didn't even hesitate. She slid onto Sam's lap and looped her arms around his neck.

Right then, Madison caught sight of the bite mark hidden beneath his collar and the scratch behind his ear. She froze.

She didn't need to guess who did it. She had clearly put them there last night.

Sam noticed the change in her and knew she must have seen the marks on his neck.

He was wondering if she would bring it up when, a second later, she ignored it. She gave him a little shake and turned on the charm.

"Sam, I really do want to learn to run the company the right way with you. Please say yes, okay? I promise I'll take it seriously. I won't be like before."

Even though Madison felt bad for Sam, she honestly didn't know how to explain what had happened last night.

She decided that if Sam didn't bring it up, she would keep playing dumb. As for those marks, she would make it up to him later.

Sam watched Madison nestle into his arms, his gaze darkening. He was confused and couldn't make sense of it.
