Madison froze when she saw the thick folder on the desk. She looked up, puzzled. "Sam, did you grab the wrong one? Even if I need to learn about the board and the department heads, it should be Quinn Group's."
Sam saw right through her and answered calmly, "I didn't grab the wrong one. Goodwin Corp is bigger than Quinn Group, and the web of relationships is more tangled.
"If you can master Goodwin Corp's structure, you'll find Quinn Group easy to manage."
Madison couldn't argue when she heard that, and she felt genuinely moved. He was essentially handing her the heart of Goodwin Corp.
She looked at Sam, conflicted. "Sam, aren't you afraid I'll use these documents against you?"
Sam looked at her calmly. "Would you?"
The truth was, giving her those documents was a gamble. He'd told himself that if Madison still let him down in the end, he would let her go for good.
He loved her, but he had his pride. He would never let anyone walk all over him again and again.
Madison had no idea what was going through Sam's head. She met his calm gaze and answered without thinking, "Of course not!"
Whether she was telling the truth or lying, Sam was pleased by how quickly she answered. But he was used to keeping his feelings to himself, so he only gave a reserved nod.
"In that case, look over the documents first. If you run into anything you don't understand, bring it to me."
Madison nodded quietly and watched him turn back to his desk. She dropped her gaze to the folder in front of her, a faint disappointment flickering in her eyes.
