Gavin glanced at the girl beside him and replied offhandedly, “Don’t mention it.”
“Alright,” Aidan cut in, checking the time. “It’s getting late. Let’s get going, guys,”
As the others filed into the elevator, Aidan hesitated for a second before turning back to me. “Hey, how come I didn’t see Chloe today?”
“1” I looked at Gavin He gave a slight nod, so I told him the truth “She went home for Christmas.”
Aidan’s brow furrowed slightly. He gave me a brief nod. “Okay. Thanks.”
The elevator area quickly settled into silence.
I let out a breath I didn’t realize I’d been holding. I couldn’t help but ask, “Is there something going on between Aidan and Chloe?”
I’d sensed something was off when I picked Chloe up a couple of days ago. But she’d been sick, and I got the feeling she didn’t want to talk about it, so I never asked.
Gavin’s eyebrow lifted slightly. “Want to know?”
“Yes.”
“Go take a shower first.”
He took my hand and led me back inside, steering me toward the master bathroom.
My scalp prickled. My period was over. My doctor’s training kicked in, and the question slipped out before I could stop it. “Do you have
condoms?”
Gavin seemed to choke on air. He coughed into his fist, but his steps didn’t falter. He glanced back at me, his dark eyes unreadable.
“What kind of condoms?”
“Condoms. Contraceptives.” I studied medicine. To any doctor, birth control is a perfectly normal topic. Given our current relationship, him telling me to shower immediately made me think of one thing.
I was the one who went to him. I was the one who proposed being his lover. It was too late to play innocent now.
Better to just get it over with. The sooner he got tired of me, the sooner I could walk away.
A slow smile spread across Gavin’s face. He lifted me onto the bathroom counter, caging me in with one arm on either side. A teasing glint appeared in his eyes as he leaned close to my ear, deliberately provoking me. “I thought you said you were my lover. Do lovers need condoms?”
His tone was utterly, infuriatingly shameless.
Even though I thought I was mentally prepared, my cheeks flushed red. “W–we still need to be safe.”
He pretended to be serious. “What kind of safe? I’m clean.”
I was getting flustered. “Gavin! This isn’t about being clean…”
Before I could finish, he cut me off, his voice low and firm. “Call me big brother.”

Chapter 169
Memories flooded back–countless times in the past when Gavin had corrected me like this.
He was unbelievably persistent about me calling him big brother.
Past experience told me the conversation wouldn’t move forward until I did.
So, treating him like a difficult client, 1 suppressed my emotions and said flatly, “Big brother.”
Gavin looked down at me, his expression cool with displeasure “lara, you weren’t this insincere when you were little.”
I was getting annoyed. “Big brother! Is that better?
