Burn Me Once Burn With Me (Ruby Grayson) novel Chapter 111

Yet the woman's elegant attire only heightened her natural beauty, making her look even more radiant by contrast.

"Cassian, if my sister wants to leave, you should just let her go," Gennifer said, stepping forward and flashing him a playful wink.

Cassian's lips curled into a cold, mirthless smile. "She wants to leave, so I'm supposed to just let her? Do I look like I run a charity?"

He tilted his head back, eyes sharp as steel. "Let's not forget—she was the one who begged and pleaded to marry me in the first place. What now? She regrets it and sends her little sister to beg on her behalf?"

Gennifer's gaze swept over the hard line of his jaw. Though his answer didn't suit her purpose, his heartless words only made her smile deepen, her eyes sparkling with genuine amusement.

Her tone turned coy and teasing. "Cassian, can't you do it for my sake?"

She paused, glancing at his expression, then threw in a final jab. "Besides… my sister had a child while she was in prison. Cassian, are you really willing to raise… someone else's child?"

She lowered her voice conspiratorially on the last words, as if reluctant to even say them aloud.

Sure enough, the moment the words left her mouth, the temperature in the office seemed to plummet, as though they'd all been plunged into an icy cavern.

Cassian's face froze over instantly.

Gennifer couldn't suppress a slight shiver, but deep down, a sense of satisfaction flickered in her chest.

So that was it—Cassian only wanted revenge on Ruby.

But even if it was just for revenge, Gennifer couldn't bear to see them tied together any longer, not as husband and wife.

A flash of hatred passed through her eyes.

How could Ruby—a convicted felon—still lay claim to the title of Mrs. Veyne?

Striking while the iron was hot, Gennifer pressed on. "Cassian, if you still blame my sister, then let me make it up to you on her behalf. I just… I beg you, let her go."

"Gennifer, you are you, and your sister is your sister. Her sins are hers alone—you have nothing to atone for in her place." Cassian's voice was cold as he glanced at Bennett.

Bennett immediately stepped forward, blocking Gennifer's view. "Miss Gennifer, Mr. Veyne has some pressing business to attend to. I'm afraid I'll have to ask you to leave for now."

Gennifer's expression flickered, but in the end she could only cast Cassian a lingering, reluctant look before turning and walking out.

As soon as the door closed, Cassian's dark gaze lingered on the panel, lost in thought.

Bennett hesitated, his mouth opening and closing as if to speak, but falling silent.

Miss Gennifer's visit had been baffling, to say the least.

No matter what was going on between Mr. Veyne and Miss Ruby, even as a sister, Gennifer was still an outsider.
