Burn Me Once Burn With Me (Ruby Grayson) novel Chapter 169

Gennifer glanced around the conference room, anxiety prickling at her as she took in the grim faces gathered around the table.

The atmosphere was tense—clearly, they were facing something serious.

She rubbed her hands together nervously, her mind racing. Gennifer knew a fair bit about the law herself; with her credentials, she could have landed a solid job at any reputable law firm. But compared to Ruby, her predecessor whose reputation loomed large, she couldn't help but feel inadequate.

When The Grayson Group had run into problems before, Gennifer had managed to resolve them by calling in favors and leveraging every connection she had. But this time…

A man with thick-rimmed glasses—he looked every bit the stereotypical researcher—began speaking rapidly, launching into a long, technical explanation before turning to Gennifer, clearly desperate for her input.

Cassian cleared his throat. "So? Any thoughts?"

Gennifer blinked, caught off guard. "Sorry, what?"

The researcher frowned at her absentmindedness but repeated his explanation with painstaking detail.

Apparently, someone had stolen Veyne & Co.'s proprietary designs and announced them publicly before the company could. Now, the two companies' products were nearly identical, and the internet was ablaze with speculation. The worst part was that Veyne & Co. had no concrete proof that they were the original patent holders, and every possible solution seemed blocked by this roadblock.

By the end of his explanation, the researcher's voice was hoarse; he looked helplessly to Ruby, and in a ripple of expectation, every eye in the room followed.

Gennifer felt her hands grow clammy.

Cassian frowned, watching her struggle for words. "Nothing? No ideas at all?"
