Burn Me Once Burn With Me (Ruby Grayson) novel Chapter 204

Ruby threw her arms around Cassian’s neck and kissed him—hard, sudden, and without warning.

The shock left Cassian momentarily frozen, his mind blanking out as if the world had gone utterly silent. All he could feel was the softness of Ruby’s lips pressing against his, the heat and mingling of their breath with barely an inch of air between them.

Under the dim, golden light, everything took on a dreamy, intimate glow.

Cassian’s eyes darkened, like a starless midnight sky swallowing everything around it. Yet, shamefully, his heart felt impossibly full.

A trace of Ruby’s cool, mysterious perfume drifted into his senses, and for a fleeting second, all he could think of was that wild, reckless night they’d shared a year ago.

But even as their lips met, Cassian could see that Ruby’s clear, distant eyes held not a hint of genuine desire. To her, he was nothing more than a convenient shield, a prop for whatever show she was putting on.

Snapping out of his daze, Cassian followed her line of sight—and caught Sylas’s pale, stormy face watching from across the room.

“Using me, Ruby?” His voice was icy, low, each word bitten off with a cold edge.

He’d seen enough. Ruby’s pointed gaze, Sylas’s ashen expression—it wasn’t hard to put the pieces together.

Ruby’s own eyes flickered as she stared out the window, but before she could say a word, the air between them bristled with a sudden, dangerous tension. A chill swept over her skin, raising goosebumps along her arms.

She barely had time to react before—

“Mmph—!”

Her eyes flew wide. Cassian’s strong hand gripped her jaw, holding her face in place, while his other arm clamped, unyielding, around her waist.

His gaze locked onto hers, dark and intense, as if trying to pierce straight through to her soul.
