“Find out who’s behind this scandal. I want names—and I want them held accountable.”
Cassian slammed his palm onto the polished desk, his hand pressing so hard into the wood that his knuckles nearly left dents in the expensive surface.
Bennett didn’t dare linger. He rushed to the door, barking orders to his team as he went.
He closed the door quietly behind him. Cassian, left alone, rubbed at his brow.
His mind was a whirlwind, frustration still pulsing in his chest.
The moment he’d seen Mira’s sweet face splashed all over the internet, anger had surged through him, as if some outsider had barged into his carefully guarded sanctuary and shattered the peace.
Beneath the tangled urge to protect Mira, another image haunted him—Ruby’s eyes, cold and brimming with disappointment.
Cassian’s fingers trembled. He squeezed the elegant fountain pen in his hand until the nib snapped, dark ink bleeding across the once-pristine paper.
He shot to his feet, grabbed his coat from the back of the chair, and strode out.
Moments later, his Maybach pulled out from the underground garage, heading straight for Veyne Private Medical Center.
When he arrived, Ruby was sitting on the hospital bed, trembling so hard her whole body shook.
Cassian’s breath caught; instinctively, his gaze went to her hands.
The glow from her phone screen lit up her pale face, making her look even more fragile.
His eyes darkened. He moved forward and took her phone from her grasp.
He needed only a glance to know the truth—Ruby already knew everything.
“I’ve already set things in motion. Every photo of Mira will be wiped from the internet,” he said, flipping her phone over and setting it on the nightstand.
“Do you know who did it?” Ruby finally looked up. Her voice was hoarse, edged with a chill.
Cassian hesitated, worried by her reaction, but he answered honestly, shaking his head. “Not yet. We’re still investigating.”
“Then focus on Gennifer and Renee,” Ruby said, meeting his eyes with a fierce determination, as if daring him to challenge her.
“Gennifer?” Cassian frowned, confused, but fell silent when he saw the shadow in her gaze.
“I’ve already told Bennett to follow up. You need to rest right now,” he said.
To Ruby, those words sounded like nothing more than Cassian making excuses for Gennifer.
She gave a bitter, mocking smile and collapsed back against the pillows, her slender shoulders sinking into the softness, making her look even more frail.
But as she turned her face away, that fragile mask slipped, and a fierce resilience flashed in her eyes.
