Burn Me Once Burn With Me (Ruby Grayson) novel Chapter 215

If it really was them… she could tolerate almost anything they did to her, at least for a moment. But if they ever stooped low enough to harm Mira, she would never let it slide.

On the other side of town, Cassian’s mind was a mess. He drove with such distraction that he nearly missed a turn more than once. He didn’t stop until he reached the front of the building, where he handed the car off to a driver to park.

But the moment he stepped out, a swarm of reporters, cameras hoisted on their shoulders, burst out from among what had seemed like an ordinary crowd.

Cassian’s mood darkened, his icy gaze sweeping over the throng pressing in around him.

Despite being hemmed in by people on all sides, it was clear who held the power in the center—so much so that even the most aggressive paparazzi, usually fearless in pursuit of a story, suddenly fell silent, cowed by his presence.

“Mr. Veyne, what do you have to say about your wife Ruby giving birth to an illegitimate child while serving a year in prison? Are you really able to accept this?”

Someone’s voice pierced the hush, and immediately, the whole mob snapped to life, raising microphones and cameras.

“Yes, Mr. Veyne! Is the child yours? If so, why have you kept it a secret? If not, do you know who the father is? Will you be raising this child as your own?”

The questions were sharp as knives, and the lobby of Veyne Tower was packed with people who lived for the latest scandal. Naturally, they all knew about the drama exploding online, and everyone strained to hear Cassian’s reply.

“Illegitimate child? Show me one credible report that actually uses those words. As journalists, isn’t it your job to avoid reckless speculation?”

Cassian’s retort was icy, his tone cutting.

One of the reporters faltered, words dying on their lips.

Employees who overheard couldn’t help but feel a chill for the reckless journalists. Were they out of their minds to provoke Mr. Veyne like this? This was the richest man in Quinborough—a sneeze from him could upend the entire business world.

Yet here they were, flirting with disaster.

The staff ducked their heads and hurried past, pretending they had seen nothing.

Cassian’s eyes were cold as steel as he continued, “Veyne & Co. has an entire legal team on retainer. I suggest you remember this moment when you receive a letter from our attorneys.”

At that, the crowd went dead silent.

“Cassian!”
