Burn Me Once Burn With Me (Ruby Grayson) novel Chapter 435

“If Violet is here in Quinborough, no matter how well she hides, she still needs the basics to get by. In this day and age, with everything online, tracking someone down isn’t exactly rocket science. The thing is…” Garrison rubbed his chin, his gaze lingering on Ruby with a hint of hesitation. “Miss Ruby, we’re experts in our field, no doubt about it, but when it comes to finding someone in a city this size, what really makes the difference is having real power.”

He left the rest unsaid, but Ruby caught his meaning immediately when their eyes met.

She knew exactly what he was implying.

In Quinborough, if anyone held true, untouchable power, it was Cassian—the man at the very apex of the city’s social pyramid.

Veyne & Co. had its hands in everything: finance, healthcare, everyday essentials—you name it. If you needed to find someone, he was the one to go to.

After all, years ago when she’d run away, living each day in constant fear and convinced she’d covered her tracks, it was still Cassian who found her in the end.

Ruby’s hand tightened into a fist, her lips pressed into a thin line as she stayed silent.

The moment Garrison laid out the facts, everyone in the room found their thoughts drifting to the same person.

A brief, awkward silence fell.

“I’ll handle it,” Sylas said suddenly, breaking the tension.

All eyes turned to him.

“Sylas, what do you mean you’ll handle it?” Ruby frowned, tugging at his sleeve to make him sit down.

But Sylas remained stubbornly upright, and took the chance to ruffle Ruby’s hair, just to tease her.

She glared at him, her hair now a mess across her forehead, but his grin only grew wider, mischievous.

“We’re divorced, Sylas. I don’t care that you’re his nephew, I’m not going to ask you to get involved with Cassian,” Ruby said, pushing down on his shoulder to force him back into his seat.

Sylas blinked, all innocence. “My uncle isn’t exactly the approachable type. Even being his nephew doesn’t mean he’ll just do me a favor. But he does owe me one, and this is the perfect time to cash it in.”

Ruby hesitated, her initial refusal softening just a little.

Sylas seized the moment, gently tugging her down beside him. “Relax, I’ve got this.”

She eyed him suspiciously, not quite convinced.

“If Mr. Cunningham can handle it, that’s ideal. Quinborough’s a big place—it’d be nearly impossible for just the few of us to find someone on our own,” Garrison chimed in, smoothing things over.

At that, Ruby finally relented, leaving the matter in Sylas’s hands.

She turned away, rejoining the others as they dove into their next problem.

Sylas, for once, didn’t immediately join in; instead, he watched Ruby, as if he couldn’t look away.
