Burn Me Once Burn With Me (Ruby Grayson) novel Chapter 437

“Come in.”

Cassian set his pen aside, interlaced his fingers, and looked toward the door.

Sylas strode in, clad in a striking red motorcycle jacket that injected a jolt of color into the otherwise austere, black-and-white office. He dragged a chair over, dropped into it, and slung one leg carelessly over the other.

“Uncle Cassian, you called the Cunningham family just to get me back home, didn’t you? What—you can’t stand seeing me around Ruby?”

His words were sharp, direct, and the temperature in the room seemed to drop as Cassian’s gaze hardened.

Sylas, unfazed, spun his chair idly and grinned at Cassian. “Let me guess. Someone missed his shot with her a long time ago, and now he’s jealous, isn’t he?”

He yanked his chair closer, leaning in so their faces were only a breath apart.

Their eyes locked—one as cold and dark as a winter night, the other crackling with the heat of a wildfire.

Bennett, who’d been quietly observing from the corner, nearly dropped the files in his hands. Was Sylas out of his mind? Who talks to Mr. Veyne like that and lives to tell the tale?

Sylas only smirked, the challenge in his eyes impossible to miss.

“Sylas, do you really think that just because she lets you stay by her side, you’ve got a real chance?” Cassian’s voice was icy, each word cutting like a shard of glass.

Sylas’s eyes narrowed, a silver glint flashing in their depths.

Bennett blinked, sure he must have misheard. Did Mr. Veyne really just say that? Was he dreaming?

Even more shocking, Cassian wasn’t denying Sylas’s claim—he was trading barbs right back.

Sylas’s grin widened. “Still better than someone who isn’t even allowed to get close.”

Bennett watched the verbal sparring, feeling a chill run down his spine. The tension between the two was almost electric.

Cassian’s face was now clouded and ominous.

Sylas rapped his knuckles on the desk, breaking the silence.

Cassian frowned, turning to him.

“You can strong-arm the Cunningham family all you want, but you know as well as I do—if I don’t want to come back, no one can make me.” Sylas shrugged, every inch the charming rogue.

“So what do you want?” Cassian’s voice was cold and gravelly, with a darkness that made Bennett shiver.

“I’ll go back willingly, but I need you to do something for me first.”

Sylas spoke lightly, but the confidence in her tone made it clear she expected Cassian to agree.
