He lowered his gaze, dodging Cassian's eyes. "I just remembered something and didn't want to bother the staff with it."
As his words faded, Cassian's attention lingered on the file Cameron handed over.
"Leave it. I'll have Bennett deliver it before the end of the day."
"It's a bit urgent, so I'll just wait here for your signature and take it myself. No need to trouble Bennett."
Cameron Lockridge's odd insistence made Cassian give him a second, sharper look. Suspicion flickered in his eyes as he glanced from Cameron to the file on his desk.
"Leave it," Cassian repeated, patience wearing thin. He rubbed his brow, his voice crisp and cold.
Cameron heard the displeasure in Cassian's tone and, biting his lip, had no choice but to retreat.
But the moment the office door clicked shut behind him, he heard nothing but the thunder of his own heartbeat.
He'd actually taken the risk of slipping Ms. Grayson's drafted divorce agreement from her desk and bringing it straight to Mr. Veyne!
It was only now, standing outside the office, that the full weight of what he'd done sank in.
But he had no other choice. He was determined to help Ms. Grayson—once so radiant and full of life—finally break free from that terrifying man.
Casting a wary glance at the firmly closed door, he sat on a nearby couch, nerves stretched taut as he waited.
With Cassian's controlling nature, there was no way he'd ever let Ms. Grayson leave—especially not with his child. The only explanation was that she'd run away, and Cassian probably didn't even know he had a child at all. Ms. Grayson certainly had no intention of letting him find out.
Cameron replayed his theories over and over in his mind, his palm growing damp as he clenched his fists.
Ms. Grayson wanted out—out from under Mr. Veyne's shadow.
And, truth be told, he had his own reasons for wanting to help her.
He could only hope Mr. Veyne wouldn't catch on.
Meanwhile, Cassian paused mid-signature and looked over at the file Cameron had left.
