Burn Me Once Burn With Me (Ruby Grayson) novel Chapter 484

“If going mad is the only way to have you, then let me lose my mind forever.”

With a heavy exhale, Morgan strode away, leaving the room colder in his absence.

But as his words lingered in the air, a chill crawled up Ruby’s spine. The sound of his voice faded down the hallway, and she turned her attention to Asher, gently ushering him back inside.

“Don’t be scared. Tell me—what did they do to you when they took you? You can trust me.”

Ruby carefully patted his back and ran a soothing hand along his spine. It took a while before Asher finally came to himself, his voice still trembling.

“Please… don’t go, Ruby…”

He clung desperately to her shirt, eyes pleading, but stubbornly refused to say what had happened after he was taken.

Ruby’s frown deepened. As she murmured reassurances, she quickly pulled out her phone and summoned Fanny and Hayley.

They arrived in record time—Hayley, in particular, nearly bursting through the door.

Once all three were seated on the sofa and Ruby had finished recounting everything, both women exchanged skeptical glances.

“So, he went through all that trouble just to have you invite him to dinner?” Hayley quirked an eyebrow, then slapped her hand on the table, making her verdict. “No way. This dinner isn’t what it seems, Ruby. You can’t go!”

“Exactly. And now that Asher’s back, there’s no reason to take that risk,” Fanny agreed firmly.

Ruby chewed her lip, anxiety gnawing at her. Something about the whole thing didn’t add up.

“If his plan was to take Asher, or at the very least, to have him leave with me during that meal… why is he suddenly so comfortable letting Asher come home?” she voiced her doubt, gaze shadowed.

Her question cast a hush over the room. The three women looked at each other, confusion clouding their eyes.

“So… are you going to go?” Hayley finally broke the silence, her tone hesitant as she looked up at Ruby.

Instead of answering, Ruby tightened her grip on her phone and asked, “Any leads on the thing I asked you to look into before I left?”

For years, she’d believed Frieda had leaked those files to Gennifer. But later, she realized the evidence that ruined her hadn’t even come from those confidential documents. That meant… there was another possibility.

Hayley blinked, caught off guard by the abrupt switch, but quickly recovered. She reached into her bag and pulled out a file. “Of course.”
